We all need to reiterate that every single day.

My father was almost 94, shouldn't have been driving, and got into several fender-benders. (He paid cash to other drivers so he didn't get tickets, or more importantly, so his auto insurance carrier didn't discover the frequency. Not only because of rate increases, but he would have faced his policy being canceled AND the DMV revoking his license.
My siblings and I discussed what to do. We would need two independent physicians to examine Dad and to declare him incapable of taking care of himself and not being a danger to himself and/or others. As he was a retired physician, we had serious doubts about finding even one doctor to testify. I suggested taking away his car keys but my siblings agreed that Dad would go out and either get a new set of keys -- or even buy a new car.
As we were paralyzed with the proper response to Dad, we did nothing. We panicked when we'd hear on the local news that an elderly driver plowed into a crowd or a store. And we weren't far off. Dad died because he rear-ended a van at a gas station and refused medical attention. (His chest hit the steering column, precipitating a partially torn aorta where he effectively had a slow bleed into his chest and he suffered a massive heart attack one week later and died. And yes, he never told any of us about the accident. I had to piece what happened through lots of evidence after he died.)

We may have to make some decisions about my mother. We may end up in court to enforce those decisions.

(945 posts)I wrote to his doctor, who contacted the DMV, and his license was revoked. He was so angry he refused to return to his doctor. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.

(17,019 posts)from my Mom's neurologist. Docs, especially neurologist, deal with this all the time. For them it's a medical diagnosis. When it's your parent it feels like a huge betrayal.

Even leadership Democrats in Congress are going to wait until we the people signal beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are mad as hell are not going to take it anymore. Even if the Democrats take back the Congress in 2018, we will still be at war.
We are in a new world order and Pelosi's "better deal" is not going to be enough for us to survive as a democracy.
We have been attacked by another nation. We are at war but we do not recognize it as a war. Bombs have not exploded upon us and buildings are not being destroyed. Soldiers are not attacking with rifles.
We can lose our country, and our constitution with very few casualties. All because we did not and still do not fully comprehend the nature of war in the modern era.
This is not about a president who may or may not be suffering from dementia. This is not Ronald Reagan, whose dementia protected him from being held responsible for criminal acts in Iran-Contra. It is so much bigger.
