White House Alarmed By Possible Romney Bid

January 3, 2018 at 8:27 am EST By Taegan Goddard

New York Times: “Mr. Romney’s potential ascent is particularly alarming to the White House because the former presidential candidate has an extensive political network and could use the Senate seat as a platform to again seek the nomination. Even if he were not to run again for president, a Senator Romney could prove a pivotal swing vote, impervious to the entreaties of a president he has scorned and able to rally other Trump skeptics in the chamber.”

Salt Lake Tribune on a possible Romney Senate bid: “No decision, but if he wants it, he’ll likely win.”

And even with the Senate in the balance, Trump is enough of a 5-year-old that I wouldn't put it past him trying to sabotage Mitt in the primary OR the general election for that seat.

This does not matter.

Romney is a Republican.

He will always vote party over country.

He will not be a deterrent to Trump's agenda.

A moderate Republican will always be better than a true wingnut.

Rmoney will not be content to be one of a hundred. If he runs for Senate and is elected I think we'll see another attempt at the presidency in either 2020 or 2024.

My opinion - not backed by any actual facts - is that Romney really wants a seat on the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles but he doesn't have the bloodlines. If he gets to be the first Mormon president, though, they'll have to like him....
