So, what Democrats should try and run in Utah to replace Hatch? (Original Post) Blue_Adept Jan 2018 OP
There will be Democrats running of course... PoliticAverse Jan 2018 #1
We could say it's just Utah but we used to say it's just Alabama. Fight. Sneederbunk Jan 2018 #2

Who they think might have a chance in this environment and play to the national side as it will get attention considering Hatch's lengthy history there.

Mittens is very likely to win - it's Utah, after all - but that doesn't mean the Dems shouldn't try. They should find a good, solid, reputable candidate, and I'm sure there are such people in Utah. We should not cede any election anywhere. But realistically, Romney isn't Roy Moore. He's a fairly traditional Republican and as such is unpalatable to any Democrat, but he isn't galactically awful in the same way Roy Moore is awful. He will be difficult to defeat. The one positive thing is that he and Trump hate each other.

but it circles back to my problem in my OP. Almost everything you said talked about Romney or Trump. Nothing about any Democrats that could or should run and why.

We had similar to some degree with Moore and Jones because everything was about Moore. We heard little about Jones overall and even his impressive background was just a small piece of it, which was unfortunate as it should have been a stronger piece of the WHY to vote for him rather than people just voting against Moore.

they would be. That's up to the party in Utah. The reality is that the Alabama election was mostly about Roy Moore, and Jones probably would have lost to any other Republican who wasn't a child molester.

Jim Mathaeson will run. Obama appointed his Brother as a Federal Judge in the Salt Lake Federal Court. Funny,Mathaeson snubbed Obama's Inaugural twice.

But in the Jones case there was little point in focusing on anything beyond 'he's not Roy Moore'. That was the only reason we even had a chance at that seat.

How she will do against Romney is probably about the same. She is described as a blue dog Democrat.
