Three Republicans turn and run in one day

On Tuesday, the most senior Republican senator and a representative both announced retirement, and the GOP’s only serious candidate for governor of New York got cold feet.

As Donald Trump’s popularity has cratered and public fury against Republicans in Congress begins to generate signs of a wave election, prominent GOP politicians all around the country have been bowing out of runs for office.

But on Tuesday, Republicans faced an absolute bloodbath.

First, Pennsylvania Rep. Bill Shuster, chairman of the House Transportation Committee, declared that he would be retiring. Shuster used the ridiculous excuse that he would be too busy helping Donald Trump craft his infrastructure plan to run for re-election.

Shortly after that news broke, Utah’s Orrin Hatch — president pro tempore of the Senate, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, a key architect of the GOP tax scam, and one of Trump’s most fervent (and embarrassing) supporters — gave in to months of rumors and constituent pressure, and announced he also would not seek re-election this year.

As if all that were not enough, Republicans in New York received a blow with the announcement that former financier and presidential adviser Harry Wilson will not run for governor. - ShareBlueMedia

They know what's coming, and it's up to us to give their fears shape and substance.

Not in Utah terms, of course, but Mittens wants back on that national stage. I bet he's trying to position himself against Pence for when Trump finally does resign/croak/get impeached/declared unfit for office. The Mormons would love to get back at the fundies for shooting Mittens down in 2012.

make the mistake of tending to lump them together, because they're both uptight about sex and other fun stuff. But make no mistake, these are two groups that are now at each other's throats. The fundies always dissed the Mormons, you don't have to go very far to find videos and such that they've made that totally knocks (the easily discreditable) Mormon teachings.

Mormons were kind of go along, get along, with fundies, until they didn't come out to vote for Romney. Fundies didn't want Mormon missionaries to have the talking point, "But our President is a believer in this religion!" So, they stayed home in enough numbers to give Obama the victory.

To top it off, the fundies have backed Trump to the hilt, and the Mormons see this as twisting the knife already stuck in their backs. I knew enough of them out in Washington State, and for the six months I lived in Utah. They're pissed, although they'd call it "ticked".

Technically, I suppose they are. The theological weirdness of Mormons often runs contrary to the fundies' literalist interpretation of the Bible, so even though there is often political alignment, the Mormon stuff is a bit off-putting and the fundies aren't inclined to go out of their way to elect a Mormon just because he
is "religious."
