not in the theater and not at home. not in a plane or on a train or in a car or- oops, sorry to lapse into Seussian.
I just couldn't watch that movie without thinking about what happened and the victims and the real terror that enveloped that theater.
Honestly, I don't see how anyone could.

(40,212 posts)It would seem very macabre to sit through that film.

(47,675 posts)The fault lies in a culture that allows military grade arsenals to be easily and legally obtained by deranged individuals. This isn't about hunting. It isn't about self defense. It's about slaughter. That's all the things are good for.

(114,904 posts)can't see it because I know that all I'll think about is the horror of Aurora. I didn't suggest that other people should feel that way or that it is the movie's fault.

(114,904 posts)Oh, and I should mention I'm much more a Forsyte Saga type than a superhero type, so it's not as if I would have felt some great draw to see it. Had this not happened I probably would have seen it, but I'm not a huge fan of the first one and I didn't even see the second.

(8,570 posts)makes perfect sense to me. We all have our individual interests and there are movies and TV shows my friends like that I think are dumb as hell - and they feel the same way about me.
However, claiming that you won't go see a movie because something bad happened while that movie was playing - in a theater that you weren't in - seems a little over-the-top to me.

(114,904 posts)or at least tried to have watched it.

(8,570 posts)It doesn't grok.
Unless there is something you haven't mentioned like that you were there or lost a loved one there. It might make a little more sense then, but even then....

(114,904 posts)yesterday. DU does have such an abundance of piss poor comparisons, analogies and metaphors.
Is this latest Batman movie in any way a memorial to what happened at that theatre? Uh, clue: No. Not. Zippo.
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)Which us the reason you gave for not going to the Batman movie.
The question is, do you live your life trying to avoid anything that reminds you in any way of something unpleasant? I don't, but I guess some people do.
HappyMe
(20,277 posts)to a damn Batman movie is ridiculous.

(25,406 posts)There are lots of things out there that will remind people of victims and terror.

(114,904 posts)That and education. Sorry you didn't know even that, dear. Pretty fucking basic stuff. The purpose of the Batman movie franchise is to entertain.
See the difference? It couldn't be more in your face obvious.

(20,277 posts)They were building the memorial, I have seen the memorial to the firefighters across the street. My son and I clutched one another and cried.

(114,904 posts)let me explain precisely why: Titanic is a movie about a tragic event. The Aurora shooting is not like a ship hitting an iceberg.
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)How would "Titanic" not do that?
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)Real events. More deaths. More terror.

(22,000 posts)here in Korea, but I ended up busy with other stuff. After what has happened I think I'll wait until it's on torrent and get it. The thing I dislike is the movie is too long, 2 hours 45 minutes.
