We see a lot of them on the TV lately. MSNBC, as but one example, has them on panels and even as anchors (Nicole Wallace). We read insightful anti Trump and even anti republican ideas from the likes of Jennifer Rubin and Steve Schmidt. JoeAndMika, although pretty pro Trump a year or so ago, now as anti Trump as one can be. Charlie Sykes. George Will. And the list goes on.
These are all people with whom we liberals disagreed on almost everything. Yet, today, in the face of the ChaosThatIsTrump, they seem like friends.
And maybe they are.
The way forward in any society is the middle. Someplace within a standard deviation from dead center. Slightly left. Slightly right.
When you think about it, we have never had a president who was such an outlier as is this one. The worst of them were still within that standard deviation.
I will probably never agree very much with, say, Steve Schmidt. But I can respect him. I can respect his reason and his rationality. I believe he thinks as much of this country and our society as I do. I dare say I share the larger goals for our society with the likes of him and well as the likes of Maxine Waters. The details differ greatly. And that's what an elected congress works through. That's the way it was all my life.
Well, maybe until the time of Newt Gingrich, when collegiality gave way to gang warfare.
I'd like to see the Never Trumps once again get back in power on their side of the aisle. I do honestly believe they would act collegially. If for no other reason than they now see how very badly off the rails we have gotten.
Just musing . . . . . .

(51,623 posts)has legitimate issues to defend but the other kind...forget it! There is no way I will have the crazy, hate filled type as a friend or even an acquaintance. I cut the cord today. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I have little time and energy left to waste any of it on a clone of the fucking moron masquerading as a rational human being, thank you very much.

(15,682 posts)"No New Taxes" guy and the reason for the reconciliation agreement which we are supposed to abide by today? Of course, Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan came up with magical thinking to get around the no new deficit spending rule (for their new tax cut) that was enacted while holding onto the simple majority rule that also came with it.
Am I mistaken? Correct me if I'm confusing one asshole's scheme with another's.

(90,769 posts)It's been pretty much downhill from there. Before that, we were always just about center: center-left one cycle, center-right the next. We've got to find our way back there or we are finished.

(1,474 posts)since Eisenhower. They have been on a constant spiral to hell since then. It is good to see Never Trumpers speak to what an asshole he is, but most of them supported an ideology that brought Trump. Some of them seem like reasonable people that one can have an honest disagreement with but look who and what they have supported and how it brought us to where we are.
Trump has exposed the GOP as a traitorous conspiracy waving the constitution. People willing to let others die with no health insurance or no food while waving the bible. Jesus lovers who start wars for profit and to cover up their ineptness. Perhaps they hate trump because he is showing what lying hypocrites they are.
