Four Days at the County Fair
I've been on my feet for about 30 hours since Thursday, introducing myself to the voters of this state legislative district. The Republican booth just outside the entrance to our exhibit hall gave away thousands of "Nobama" stickers; many people sported these gems as they cruised the aisles and walkways of the fair. I set out to spend less than 10 seconds with each person I accosted, giving my name, the office I'm seeking, a quick "It's important that citizens step forward to run against career politicians," and my double-sided postcard handout.
Of the longer conversations that inevitably developed, there was on average one sustaining sympathetic exchange for each ten hostile screeds about socialism, ruination of the country, people who won't work, and so on. Despite this almost universal mistrust of government, my opponent has managed to somehow enthrall a huge number of these voters during his eight years of being a conduit for money from every pharmaceutical company and bank in the country.
I've got my work cut out for me, but I'm ready for a good campaign. My website ought to be up in a few days, and until then here's Act Blue: http://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/rondu
