Tell Fox LA: Proposition 32 Is Not What it Seems!

http://act.aflcio.org/c/1427/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=4704?s

Over the weekend, Kevin Hale, the General Manager of KTTV, the LA Fox affiliate, read an editorial about Prop 32. Not only does the editorial completely ignore the well-documented fact that Prop 32 specifically exempts Super PACs and some of the most powerful companies in the state, it also ignores the reality of the dysfunction in Sacramento -- and that Prop 32 will actually make the political system even worse.

Video at link.

As you can tell, Mr. Hale makes no allusions to anything about the measure other than its role as a means of attacking working people and their unions in California. While Yes on 32 campaign makes the phony argument that 32 is "balanced," this editorial shows the true intention of the Special Exemptions Act. Prop 32 limits contributions from a few specific corporate accounts, but it leaves open a vast world of avenues for corporations and their SuperPAC Billionaire friends. Instead of more transparency in our elections, we will be left with more groups who don't disclose their donors and spend huge hordes of this anonymous cash on our elections.

Mr. Hale goes on to ask for the opinions of viewers. Now is the time to tell this Fox affiliate that Prop 32 just isn't what it seems. When you fill out the form below, it will be emailed to KTTV so that they understand why everyday Californians, as opposed to the SuperPAC Billionaires pushing this measure are so opposed to Prop 32.

Remember to keep the tone of the letter civil and remain focused on the issues relevant to the Special Exemptions Act. A few suggestions:

Prop 32 leaves open enormous loopholes and gives SuperPACs and Independent Expenditures, their California equivalent, a Special Exemption.
Prop 32 doesn't require disclosure from SuperPAC and IE contributors giving millions of dollars.
Prop 32 gives exemptions to LLCs and LLPs and several other business entities, opting only to regulate "corporations." This leaves open another huge set of loopholes in favor of the wealthiest donors and businesses, including Wall Street firms and hedge funds.
Prop 32 is an unbalanced approach that takes our election finance in the wrong direction

Unions lobby for workers rights, health and safety on the job, funding for OSHA, job creation, overtime pay and minimum wage to name a few. All of these benefits are shared by union and non-union workers. Silencing one side means no checks and balances. The Chamber of Commerce, lobbyist from big business, LLC and other corporations are at each of the same hearings charging that workers rights, implementing new job sit safety rules, and minimum wage increases will put them out of business. They lobby for funding to be cut to OSHA to cripple enforcement of health and safety laws, and they are the first to take USA jobs else where to increase the bottom line. How does that help union or non-union workers? When workers go home from work in the same health they left their house, that means no worker's Comp. When workers receive increases in pay, they pay more taxes and have more money to stimulate the economy by purchasing new instead of used goods.
Who's hands are on the smoking gun? Corporations who want no regulations, taxes, or environmental responsibilities.

Martin Luther King, Jr.:
In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, as 'right-to-work.' It provides no 'rights' and no 'works.' Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining... We demand this fraud be stopped. —Speaking on right-to-work laws in 1961
