What on Earth is all the hullabaloo over gums?

Gums. Have you noticed that lately everyone is talking about gums?Some people like their gums some people hate their gums.........some people hate gums so much they want to have all gums banned! I know!!! Don't they know that without gums peoples teeth will fall right out of their heads?
Now I (chknltl) like oatmeal, just as much as the next guy.... actually I like my oatmeal with milk and sugar and a little butter and blueberries....not too much butter and you have to drop the blueberries on top making a smiley face before you put on the milk, that is how my grandmother, (grandma chknltl) used to make it... then she would let me add the sugar but she would always stop me after the sixth teaspoon....I guess sugar must have been pretty expensive back in her day.
So I asked myself, "Chknltl, what side of the gums issue do you fall on?" After a lot of thought I decided that I like my gums and wish to continue my decades long relationship with them.
So I wish to announce here in the DU lounge, a place which accepts us unconditionally--- (but not freepers and haters of any creatures we chose as companions) (well except for sea urchins, what kind of a person has a pet sea urchin? I mean you can't teach one to fetch, it just sits there all prickly and stuff waiting for you to reach out and touch it and then WHAMO you get a handful of sea urchin puncture marks which can get an infection that oozes puss and then the neighbor kids will chase you around with baseball bats and a chainsaw thinking that the Zombie Apocalypse has started....no, trust me, (chknltl), you don't want to get a pet sea urchin) --- I want you all to know that chknltl is a supporter of gums rights, I...... am a gumnut.
If anyone should ask me, "So chknltl, which side of the gums issue do you side with?" I will say with no shame, CHKNLTL SUPPORTS THE RIGHT TO CHEWS!
Now I, (chknltl), know that you, (not chknltl) may have a different opinion on gums than I, (c), have. I can accept that. It's a big planet and you can get off of it. If all you anti-gumnuts would please leave, (take your pet sea urchins with you too), there would be less unemployment, world peas and everyone will be much happier.

Ps.: Please do not confuse us gumnuts with the berries in the photo below which are also gumnuts but without teeth.
