While there'll be plenty of regular news talk today, things lead off with what's in the moment for most people. And most people, even briefly checking in on the news, are engaging in holiday festivities.

and I’m good to go. (The items my daughter and SIL requested I pick up at the grocery store on my way to their house for Christmas festivities). No panic, though. If they have a run on herring, SIL will have to forego that holiday tradition till next year.

Probably why he hasn’t disowned me yet. I’m the cool MIL.

Not familiar with the knackebrot, but it looks tasty.

My Christmas must is sauerkraut, rinsed and cooked with brown sugar, butter, and caraway seeds. Latvian tradition.

The store I regularly go to has discontinued stocking it as well as the plain pickled variety. They even show it on sale on their website, B@$#@%ds!

I will be out and about in a few and have a look in another store later today. It will all be for me! I am the only one who likes it.

I'm in Virginia near Charlottesville. No Publix here, but we have stores that carry it, just not Food Lion or Kroger. One local that I'm positive will have several brands of it is what we (not so) jokingly call Foods of High Prices and is actually called Foods of All Nations.

My late Father always had his pickled herring with onions in sour cream for a Christmas Day snack.

I am guessing you are near Tavernier, Fl., which is on the way to some of my favorite places many years ago.

I made bourbon balls for my sister and neighbor, cookies for a work thing, and sent a gift card to another sister. That's it. The dogs aren't getting presents, like they care anyway and like they don't get presents all the time.

It was hard to resist the 30% off at Kohl's! Free shipping at Costco! 30% off and free shipping at Target!!!! I looked, but nothing I need. I was tempted, but again, nothing I need.

I've been losing weight so I've had to shut out all my favorite Christmas cookies and candies. That hasn't been too hard, actually easier than I thought. I'm down 25 pounds on 1000-1200 calories/day. I don't want to go backwards.

So bah humbug. I'm watching the hysteria from the outside this year and wow, is it weird.
