salt. It's laughable, the last two increases made me about $6-10 less in my monthly checks. This time, wow, out of the supposed $25 I get to keep $4 of it. Such a joke. The medicare increase seems to me to be out of control. Of course I have never had to use it so perhaps that's why I'm a wee bit ticked, but still....

(4,492 posts)I'm 37. AT this point I think SS and Medicare will be a tax I pay to older generations. I'm getting more and more pessimistic that my generation will see a dime.

The reality is Congress has been stealing, (they call it borrowing) from the social security fund to fight wars, and other things that it was never intended. Gore ran on that platform that he would protect social security, and George Bush almost succeeded in getting his foot in the door to start to privatize social security, but the economy imploded due in large part to the deregulation that prevented would have prevented much of the "gaming the system" that occurred.
In short, it is actually up to your generation to vote in people that will preserve and protect social security and medicare that we have all been paying into, and are ENTITLED to the benefits that we have been paying into
Elections have consequences. 2018 is probably the last opportunity to stop what is happening
