Really, Susan Collins? Collins Says News Coverage of Her Tax Vote 'Unbelievably Sexist'

(Bloomberg) -- Republican Senator Susan Collins ripped news coverage of her decision to vote for the GOP tax-cut bill as "unbelievably sexist" on Tuesday.

"I cannot believe that the press would have treated another senator with 20 years of experience as they have treated me," the Maine senator told reporters at the Capitol.

"They’ve ignored everything that I’ve gotten, and there have been stories after stories about how I’ve been duped," she said. "How are you duped when all of your amendments get accepted? And when the majority leader -- and I confirmed it again today with him -- will be offering the two insurance bills that I care about as well as the provision waiving the automatic cut in Medicare that could be triggered by this bill?"

The moderate Republican has often won praise from liberals for backing Planned Parenthood and especially for her crucial vote in July to block a repeal of Obamacare. Yet she’s taken heat for deciding to back the GOP tax-cut plan, which contains a provision eliminating Obamacare’s requirement that most Americans get health insurance or pay a penalty.

Which raises the question: if one has integrity some of the time, does one have any integrity at all?

It's not a part time thing. You either have integrity or you don't. Simple as that.

There was no reason for her to vote in favor.

She will have to answer for that to her folks back home.

Her claim is pathetic and grasping at straws. I'm wondering what kind of investments she has that might make her suddenly veer to the dark side. The bill should be called the "GOP Lining Its Pockets Act."

She was said to have been fooled or duped by McConnell. When the first bill passed with her vote and the House made it clear that they promised nothing, it should have been taken as a warning.

We will shortly see if she secured a real deal to pass her health care provisions in BOTH houses and that the President will sign the bill that does it. If not, saying she is either patently dishonest or yes, she was duped. Would she prefer we say she was dishonest?

extremely common. So when's the last time you read about male congressmen described as weak, trusting, dupes who managed to keep from crying?

And, btw, choosing to believe that coverage is also extremely sexist. Collins has been in government for 40 years, elected to congress for 20. No one learns nothing in that time, except maybe Betty Boop had Republicans elected her. Even President Barbie wouldn't be that stupid.
