A nice story to kick off the weekend

Just got back home from my daily commute. I'm a blue dot in a sea of red here in rural northeast Georgia and am keenly aware of the issues involving the police and persons of color. I'll admit that I've never personally witnessed police brutality here, but that's not to say it doesn't happen, I just don't get out much.

Anyway, driving home, our two lane road was funneled into one, and as we inched closer I could see why: there had apparently been a minor accident and police and a tow truck were on the scene. As I slowly passed, I noticed a middle-aged AA woman speaking to a white police officer who looked to be around 60. You could see she was emotional but under control. Then, out of the blue, she approached him and gave him a hug. She backed away and he looked back at her with compassion and kindness. It was one of those moments I wished I'd had a camera, because it was sweet and impromptu and damned if I was the only person in the world at that moment that caught it.

Anyway, BLM and systemic race issues in law enforcement absolutely do exist and absolutely need to be addressed and remedied. But for one moment, I saw what I think all of us want to see: 2 human beings, one vulnerable, one with a badge, one black, one white, both displaying a humane and cooperative spirit at a time in America that desperately calls for it.

I think this is going to be a good weekend.

Maybe I need to take off this tinfoil hat I'm wearing

But would it be within the realm of possibility that Trump and Putin were scheming to gin up a skirmish in Afghanistan - right before the election - greatly enhancing Trump's ability to obtain by fiat a hold on the presidency beyond its expiration date -

and that the intelligence community, aware of the diabolical plot they were hatching, leaked this report to deflect it to the knowing eyes of the American people?

I know, I know.

So now we know that the "Cov" in Covfefe was for COVID-19

What the hell does "fefe" mean?

Pandemics expose our government as being reactionary, not pro-active

This is why we need POLITICIANS in politics, not businesspersons....and why a government that governs is essential, not a government that is in the business of making money.

To those who thought otherwise, I hereby extend two middle fingers and a primal yell for good measure.

Remember that Twilight Zone episode, "To Serve Man"?

The one where the aliens presented the human race with a miracle book that would teach us the secrets of the galaxy that only needed to be translated into human languages? And that ended with the discovery that the masses of people who had trusted these aliens and boarded humongous transport ships to their native planet were to become the delicious ingredients to alien dishes, because the book wasn't a manifesto, it was a cookbook? Yeah, that one.

May 21, 2020. How will the psychophants that comprise the Trump Nation be coping with a major pandemic sweeping through Redland on the shores of Denial as they fall one after the other with no stable plan in place to protect them? Will they see that they've been duped, but realize too late, like the victims in To Serve Man? Or will Trump have already brainwashed them into blaming something else, someone else? China? Martial law enforced by the MAGA squad?

I wish I didn't have to compare the near future in the USA to a duotone television program, but the themes are strikingly similar and I think America is about to become consumed.

Godspeed Uncle Joe and Aunt Nancy. We need you now more than ever before.

3 words that dispel right wing "rugged individualism" and their distorted view of the Constitution

Pandemic.

Natural disasters.

Under their view of the Constitution, it's every man and woman for themselves. Government is not in place to protect us in time of need. If you're not set up to deal with the consequences, it's on you. Period. You should have done this, you should have done that.

But pandemics and natural disasters require a government that offers protections and plans for the masses. You cannot isolate an individual from the community at large, because we all exist in conjunction with each other. And that's where the GOP lie falls apart. We can't deal with this individually, because everything we rely on disintegrates in unforeseen emergencies.

Once you take the step to protect the innocent from a pandemic or a natural disaster, you've embarked on a journey that now embraces compassion and progressive politics. In other words, this pandemic pretty much blows their bullshit twist on Constitutional interpretation on its head.

At this very moment, you can bet Sean Hannity and his producer are contriving a report

That a migrant caravan carrying Hunter Biden and other Hondurans is heading towards the USA at breakneck speed.

One thing I never understand - When the Reps say this is a "Political Witchhunt"

And that the only reason the Dems are impeaching Trump is because we didn't like him from the get-go and we're trying to steal the White House when we couldn't win it fair and square in a national election...

...why don't we remind them that removal of Trump STILL LEAVES a Republican in the White House?

I'm growing tired of the mischaracterization and the lack of a spine with the media. Granted, these are permanent afflications.

Assuming there's enough proof, could Dems use RICO to take down GOP Senators

Who are complicit in this entire money laundering/obstruction of justice fiasco with Trump, his cabinet, and all the rest of the GOP, prior to the Senate impeachment trial?

Otherwise, it seems to allow them to cast judgment on the guilt or innocence of Trump when they are complicit in the same crime. That would be a major miscarriage of justice, a blight on our democracy, an affront on justice and the rule of law. To me, an impeachment that ends in Trump's acquittal based on the votes of co-conspirators in the crimes he is accused of cannot be allowed to advance. Surely the Dems in power see the same thing and feel the same way.

I can imagine a scenario where one Congressperson is brought to justice by his or her colleagues, but what if the cancer is so pervasive that it would ensnare a dozen or dozens of them? Could such a sweep be successfully tackled by the Dems, and prior to the Senate hearing at that?

Not asking this as a Democrat. Asking this as an American.

Why is Trump allowed to testify by tweet?

He is using an electronic media to give voice to his mendacious disinformation DURING AN IMPEACHMENT HEARING aimed directly at him!

The American people shouldn't hear a peep from him regarding his guilt or innocence, or the witnesses' credibility, or anything else even tangentially related to this hearing unless he is under oath and being interrogated by Congress. We govern there.

So come on, Donald. Whatever you have to say, say it in the People's House.
