On April 29th a person using the twitter account “@septscelles” released a large file to Barrett Brown that purportedly contained secret US Chamber of Commerce documents. This file was later made available via File Dropper as a (strangely truecypted) torrent named "chambersecrets2". It is also reported to have been made available in an unencrypted form on the Pirate Bay.

Despite the promise of secrets and leaks, early research has thus far shown that this information is publicly available through a simple Google search. It's very possible that “@septscelles” is just an attention seeking troll. Despite this, there is a more insidious possibility. We learned from the HB Gary emails that the Chamber of Commerce was advised to “feed the fuel between the feuding groups, disinformation." Specific mention was made of " messages around actions to sabotage or discredit the opposing organization submit fake documents and then call out the error…”

The file is very large, and will therefore take some time to fully examine. Nevertheless, we would like to state that this information was provided by an unknown party and may be an attempt to discredit Anonymous through a campaign of misinformation. More information will be coming soon.

1. I guess they would know if they did it or not?
I don't know if they always consult each other about every action.

Otherwise this becomes a kind of hi-tech agent provocateur action.

My hopes had been for illegal juicy goodness to get all over the chamber.

2. I was wondering about that, because
I do not remember Anon using true crypt stuff, usually their releases are out in the open for anyone to see.
When the "chamber secrets" thing came out in a DU thread, the link went to an encrypted source with an encouragement to download some "key" to unlock it. I backed out.
( best way I can explain that, having just woken up.)

3. I didn't see anything about downloading some key.
The key is supposedly "Barrett Brown". No need to download that, it's a short phrase.

4. More people may be enlightened as to what the Chamber of Commerce does?
Have you seen this article, Kpete?:

"...FOCA project files were included in the document release, adding additional proof that the collected data came from public sources. Additionally, by nature of the FOCA tool itself, some interesting details about the three organizations were also made available.

For example, Windows XP and outdated versions of Adobe and Microsoft Office software are widely adopted. This information isn’t major, but the other details released could be considered sensitive, including network mapping data (server shares and IP addresses), email addresses, and user ID naming conventions.

There are more than 1,500 files in the Torrent published to the Web. Again, based on the FOCA project files, all of them are currently in the public domain on their own.

If anything, this Torrent will offer anyone researching the three organizations a solid starting point with a massive collection of data. Yet, one should still treat the information contained in the re-published documents with a grain of salt."

5. This is from the comments section of that rel, ease at anonnews:
" Please to remove hand from pants and close 4chan Yuri board before reading our humble comment.

We did this. Weâ??ll do another, similar one soon. Maybe Sunday. Maybe next week. We act where and when we choose.

This operation has thus far been both flawless AND a roaring success.

Flawless:

Who the fuck did this? Nobody knows. No IRC faggotry, no registered domain that can be attacked, just a Twitter account created with a temporary email account and accessed via an anonymous service. You can Google that shit till your fingers bleed, it means nothing. Torrent seed source means nothing, torrent seed distribution methods were a muddle, torrent content had 800+ seeds when we stopped paying attention.

The targets now have a MASSIVE security problem.

A serious recon tool was applied to their domains. What else might a source this disciplined have done? Gotta assume the worst â?? guess they are planning to or already have spearfished multiple targets in and around each domain. We didnâ??t, of course, but given the level of attention this will bring someone less upstanding than us will have a go at it.

The documents were public domain. We didnâ??t slip anything secret into the mix. We didnâ??t edit anything. The contents went straight from Focaâ??s search function into a directory with the Foca project file, they got wrapped up in TrueCrypt, and seeded. This is still a DISASTER for them, because we put one tiny roadblock between netroots activists and union organizers. Enough of them have already sorted out how to mount a TrueCrypt file and theyâ??ve got 1,800 documents all in one place. People who would never have dug through those sites manually are now reading item by item, and theyâ??re going to find things those organizations NEVER wanted the world to know.

Roaring Success:

Massive DailyKos and Reddit coverage. Articles popping up in the online trade press. Print journalism nosing around to find out if this is a story. If our second release is as successful as the first they will have no choice but to cover this series of events.

People who would have never used TrueCrypt now have it and see how simple it is. Foca has a steep learning curve for full application, but a researcher who just wants all documents from a given domain? Thatâ??s trivial. If 800 people got the full download and just 1% of them give up Farmville and start playing Foca instead thatâ??s a permanent nightmare for the three targets AND every other entity like them.

Three domains with 1,800 documents, almost all of which need metadata scrubbing. Dozens of content producers not hip to creating public data that has had the private stuff scrubbed. Servers both public and private as well as all desktop/laptops are now suspect due to broad coverage of what might have been an intense recon operation. How much is it going to cost them to ensure theyâ??re safe? Security consultants, audits of everything, burdensome new procedures, staff training, expensive software updates.

The technology used is simple, we committed no crimes in this matter, but we have turned a million candlepower spotlight on these three entities at a time when the policies they conceived are getting governors recalled in more than one state. This is attention they could ill afford if the world was otherwise quiet. It is not.

Massive Anonymous bonus points accrued â?? put Barrett Brown to work but he has no idea who we are. Didnâ??t show up in IRC, ignored tinychat bait, no phone numbers, no email, just one dead end Twitter account thatâ??ll get deleted within a week at the very most. "
