Japan government says mothers with radioactive breast milk should not be overly concerned

Minute levels of radiation detected in breast milk

Japan's Health Ministry says it has detected a minute amount of radioactive materials in breast milk in 7 mothers in central and northeastern Japan. The ministry says the amount does not pose a danger to their babies' health. snip

Japan has no regulatory levels to determine the health risk from radioactive substances in breast milk. But it sets the safety levels for babies' consumption of milk and drinking water at 100 becquerels of radioactive iodine per kilogram and 200 becquerels of radioactive cesium per kilogram.

The detected amount in the samples was much lower than the regulatory levels and the ministry says it is too minute to have any impact on babies' health. It also says mothers who are breast-feeding should not be overly concerned.

2. The Japanese government is simply not credible when it comes to these matters
It has engaged in lies and obfuscation, and it is not only endangering its own population, but the rest of the world as well.

Minute amount of radioactive substances found in breast milk of 7

TOKYO —

A minute amount of radioactive substances have been found in breast milk of seven women in a survey covering 23 women in Tokyo and four other prefectures, including Fukushima and its neighboring Ibaraki, the health ministry said Saturday.

The amount found is below the interim limits for milk and dairy products under the Food Sanitation Law and poses no health risks to babies, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.

they have the best interests of their citizens in mind.

7. We will remember they said this...
...and the rest of the lies and sick disinformation.

Same as Chernobyl. It was all played down and the damage was hidden. Because
radiation is invisible and because the average person doesn't understand the
science--hence doesn't understand the danger they are in---these liars get
away with their lies.

Until people (including babies and young children) get cancer--they'll get away
with it. It's going to take a couple of years for the lies to be realized.

In the meantime, mothers feed their babies radioactive milk.

What is going on right now in Japan is a crime against humanity. It's just harder to see because there are no big guns and planes involved, and no mushroom clouds.

It's no surprise given the horrendous circumstances after a natural disaster (and the reactions of some of DU's Japanese posters bear this out) that the Japanese people are in deep shock, still, and understandably so. There's a protective response toward all things familiar, all things 'home' and anything that threatens that is to be pushed against. Right now, the loudest voices of warning and caution are coming from outside, and that isn't welcome.

The protective response is normal and usually a good thing, but in this instance, it's DEADLY.

WAKE UP. You are being lied to. You and your children are going to pay for the happy talk lies with your health and your lives. Please wake up and listen.

I've got no explanation for anyone who shows up with popcorn in response to a news article about ingested radiation. That's just sick.

10. and information is being kept from us as well...
Edited on Mon May-02-11 10:15 AM by CoffeeCat
A month ago, the articles were trickling in--cesium found in milk in vermont, arizona, hawaii and california. Then, the
reports of high levels of radioactive isotopes in our rainwater and also in our drinking water--and in mushrooms, strawberries
and spinach.

Then...nothing.

That radioactivity has been continuously streaming over here, since this disaster. There has been no break. Constant
radioactive isotopes being carried in by the jet stream.

But no stories.

Common sense would tell us that the presence of these isotopes in our water supply, produce, milk and in the rain---have
only accumulated and worsened.

It's disgusting that there is absolutely no news on this.

It appears that the lack of information isn't solely due to "Japanese pride" covering up their perceived failures. Otherwise, citizens
in this country, would be getting appropriate warnings and guidance. The big energy companies are demanding silence from everyone, to quell opposition to new nuclear-energy plants.

Funny though...I called my local nutrition store to ask about kelp supplements. They are a proven aid in helping remove
radioactive isotopes from the body and also helped people with radiation sickness in Japan after we dropped nukes on Hiroshima/Nagasaki.
The man with whom I spoke was very knowledgeable and directed me to some resources where I could read more about kelp and
its benefits. He also said---they were sold out, but getting more in. Even though the media has a blackout going on--
per the demand of big energy--people know. They're protecting themselves, despite the lack of information from the MSM.

Sometimes I truly believe that they're deliberately attempting to weed out people. People that they consider weak and
lesser than. In other words, "If you weren't smart enough to look at the information about the radiation, the jet
stream and do a bit of math and find out how to save yourselves, then you're just too stupid to live."

Lovely...isn't it?

11. While I completely agree with what you say but what are the choices?
Remember in March when they told Tokyo residents not to panic but they shouldn't give the tap water to infants or children under one year old because they found traces of radiation in the tap water?

Well, they panicked. Next day there was no bottled water in any stores. And people were leaving in droves. So then the Japan government came out right away and said the tap water was fine. The elderly mayor of Japan even came out for a photo op to drink a glass of Tokyo tap water. Which proves nothing because he didn't have any of his young kids or grandchildren there drinking the stuff. That would have been the real test.

I think the concern is people would panic here too if we were given the true and correct information.

13. That's a good question...
Because the situation completely sucks to high heaven.

So, we've found cesium and radioactive iodine-131 in the milk. What is the answer...to tell
people not to drink milk, thus crashing the entire dairy industry?

We've found the same isotopes (and cesium stays in the body for 30 years) in produce. We know
damn well it's still accumulating in produce, in the grass that the cows are eating, etc.

As you said--what do we do--tell people NOT to eat produce? Crash those industries?

This is a tough, tough problem and there are NO easy solutions.

However, the media blackout is a joke. There is no information at all.

Did you see that CIIRAD, an organization of radiation experts based in France, warned all Europeans
not to engage in "risky behavior" which they defined as drinking milk and eating leafy greens? In the
same warning was a paragraph

12. What a bunch of BULL. SHIT.
Ingesting radioactive particles is FAR, FAR worse than being exposed to it externally.

Babies have MUCH lower tolerances for ANY type of poison.

They are making this problem much worse, and many people will pay for it in the future.

14. And yet
it's probably safer for those babies to ingest their mothers' radioactive breastmilk than it is to drink formula taken from radioactive cow's milk and mixed with radioactive drinking water. Damn, those poor people.
