Text of Royal Wedding processional anthem (for those who are interested)
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 05:05 PM by markpkessinger
The opening processional anthem was Sir Hubert Parry's "I was glad when they said unto me" based on Psalm 122. Here is the text of the anthem:

I was glad, glad when they said unto me
We will go into the house of the Lord.
Our feet shall stand in thy gates
O Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is builded as a city
that is at unity in itself.
O pray for the peace of Jerusalem
they shall prosper that love thee.
Peace be within thy walls
and plenteousness within thy palaces!

1. The music was beautiful and moving. I couldn't understand the words.....
....as they sang it, but the orchestral arrangement was magnificent, and so different to the usual wedding or religious selections.

4. The words can be difficult to make out . . .
That's why I posted them. I already knew the words from my days as a student at Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ), where we often sang it at commencement ceremonies. The piece itself was written in 1902, originally for the coronation of Edward VII, and then later used at the coronations of George V and Elizabeth II. If I am not mistaken, i think it was used also at the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
