One of the main reasons I have been pushing myself so hard over the last few years was because....
I felt this deep personal feeling of hope for the future…

This is something new for me, talking openly about this feeling of hope. I have been eternally hopeful for most of my life, carrying with me, a Scarlet O’Hara like optimism that tomorrow would be a better day and that I would always be able to handle anything that came my way.

Some might call it spirituality based on divine hope.

But, after my last bout with lung bugs, my hope was basically shattered.

5. I sympathize.
Back in the late 80s I had a physical crash that was chronic bacterial pneumonia/bronchitis that lasted about 6 years, on and off. I was suffering from infections caused by normal flora. The respiratory techs could not understand how a person could be sick with non-pathogenic bacteria. That's how bad my immune system was.

My doctor washed out my lungs, four times in five years, so I wouldn't die, since the stuff was solidifying instead of being coughed up. I think he's a pretty fabulous doctor.

I've never had to worry about a lung transplant, anything as serious as your situation, but needing to breathe can consume your entire life. I know. I still have asthma and allergies but it's not too bad.

Good luck, Chris.
