The next huge confirmation battle will be if Panetta will sign off on DADT

The DADT repeal requires a final certification by the Secretary of Defense. I bet it will be a hot topic in confirmation hearings if this isn't done by the time Panetta hits confirmation hearings.

DADT certification likely mid-summer

Pentagon officials told a House subcommittee Friday that training for implementation of repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” has gone “extremely well so far” and that certification to Congress might come by mid-summer.

Republicans on the Military Personnel Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee used the hearing to reiterate concerns from previous Congressional debates that the military might rush to jump through the hoops necessary to actually implement repeal of the law.

1. Oh really?
I'm betting that if Penetta wouldn't have been supportive of the repeal, he wouldn't have been chosen. Obama went through a lot just to get this done, he's not going to put someone in there that would not go along with the repeal.

2. Penetta won't have a problem from or with Democrats
The problem will be with republicans that don't want DADT repealed. Just look at the link I posted. They haven't gotten over it yet.

3. I don't think there will be a confirmation process.
He has already been confirmed by the Senate to be in the Administration. This is just a change in departments..I could be wrong but I have noticed in the past when someone changed departments no confirmation process was needed. It would be extremely difficult for Republicans to deny him now after already confirming him...
