hmmmmmmmm...Kathy Nickolaus in Waukesha forgot to save? Really?
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 08:22 AM by kpete

Nickolaus said the most significant error occurred when she forgot to save after entering totals from the city of Brookfield, a suburb of Milwaukee.

Kathy Nickolaus in Waukesha forgot to save? Really?
byColdFusion04

............................

It was with great interest that I watched the press conference of Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus. You see, my "day job" is in the field of information technology, and I was tuned in to her every word regarding her use of Microsoft Access to tabulate the county wide vote totals.

..................

Nickolaus says repeatedly that she imported the data into Access, but through a process of "human error", she "forgot to save". Then come the tears, repeatedly, throughout her presser.

Here's the problem. Microsoft Access (any version) doesn't ask you to save. When you enter data into a table, it automatically updates the underlying database. If you close the database accidentally, the data you entered (or imported, in the case of Nickolaus) remains. If you stop to take a phone call from your buddy the governor (for example), your data will still automatically save.

.............................

I entered 10,000 votes for Prosser, and closed the database. No save prompt appeared. I came back in, and there were the 10,000 votes! Thanks Bill Gates! I entered 20,000 votes for Prosser, and did a hard shutdown of my computer. When I booted back up and reopened the file, the 20,000 votes were there! Thanks again Bill Gates!

1. oops... she should have said excel... it would at least have made the lie plausible
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 08:21 AM by ixion

2. +1 as an IT person who works with Access & Excel everyday
I caught that as well. Of course if she had Excel it could happen, but not Access.

3. She's a programmer who had a day and a frigging half
to muck around with the data which mysteriously ended up with Prosser with just a smidgen more votes than the minimum required for a automatic recount.

Isn't that amazing !!!

arghhhhhh

8. Yes, if she had planned to help the man who first hired her into the state Government,
Prosser, she would have to wait for the state totals (or as close to state totals as she could get) to know how many more votes for Prosser she would have to add into the count.

If she had disclosed these numbers earlier, before anyone had a good idea of what the full results were, I would believe her. But now, and with numbers that are just so convenient for the man who first hired her?

10. MORE! (plus work to do DUers)
We need to get the sign-in sheets from Waukesha county to verify the exact records in that database. We need to hire someone to painstakingly walk through the paper records and find the matching records in that database. If we can't match them, then the database cannot be considered good.

12. This is incriminating if Access was actually used to tabulate the
votes and not Excel! Either way, we need a thorough investigation and a recount of the paper ballots.

15. If we can verify that she did use Access, and that shouldn't be
hard to do, then her story is complete BS.

20. This reminds me of that woman who murdered her own children
by making her car go into a lake while they were in a car. She gave a story to the police about stopping at a light and waiting for it to be green even though there was no oncoming traffic. However, the way the light was set up, that would not have happened. The light would have been green unless a car on the crossroad would have tripped it to red. Her lie led to her conviction. I am hoping that someone is clever enough to figure out the lie here, and the truth here, no matter what stories are told. Right now, Susan Smith is still in prison. If this woman is guilty of tampering with our election, I hope she ends up in the slammer, too.

Either she is so habitually incompetent that she needs to be removed from her position or she's lying and a federal investigation should proceed immediately.

Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 11:49 PM by Kablooie
But it's OK!

She's got an Excel file with all the results that she just happened to make before she accidentally wiped out all the votes.

And oh my gosh! There are just enough Republican votes to prevent a recount. What luck!
