She was asked to be the Chief of Staff of Allen West, but there was such an outrage she had to withdraw. Unfortunately she might do very well in this state which appears to be elevating Allen West to hero status for his anti-muslim tirades.
Florida talk host Joyce Kaufman ponders a run for CongressKaufman made news last year when she was announced as the Chief of Staff for Congressman-elect Allen West, a job she soon after declined. That was apparently due to mounting criticism and comments she made on WFTL-AM (850) in West Palm Beach when she called former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "garbage." Kaufman is now entertaining ideas of joining Congressman West in Washington, but perhaps as a fellow House member. According to the Sun Sentinel newspaper, Kaufman, a resident of Florida's 19th Congressional District, is considering taking on current Rep. Ted Deutch, a Democrat. Kaufman, who is not affiliated with any political party, is a favorite of conservatives and the Tea Party, the groups that helped elect West.
The "mounting criticism" was due not only to her comments about Pelosi, but about the bullets remark. It was also about her outrageous words about wanting to "exterminate" the left, just do it humanely.
More of her words:
Joyce Kaufman's words about bulletsKaufman blames the liberal media for trying to bring down conservative politicians. Liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow this week featured video of Kaufman supposedly inciting violence, and other websites have accused her of suggesting hanging illegal immigrants.
According to The Reid Report, a blog authored by political columnist Joy-Ann Reid, whose work has appeared in The Miami Herald, Kaufman, who often talks on the air about her weapons collection, was recorded at a July 4 political rally telling attendees "if ballots don't work, bullets will," to remove politicians with contrary views to their own from office.
She also said:
In her radio program Thursday, Kaufman pushed back against depictions of herself as a person who would incite people to take up arms. After saying she wants to ``exterminate'' the left, she laughed and said, ``I mean in a humane way, trap them and release them in their homes."
She and Allen West both threatened liberals. He said:
The incoming congressman just called into Joyce Kaufman’s radio show and told her while she’s taking on the left in South Florida, he’II “fight them on the battle field in Washington DC.
“I’m even more commited, even more focused on making sure that this liberal, progressive, socialist agenda, this leftwing vile, vicious, despicable machine that is out there is soundly brought to its knees,” he said.
Here is more of what she said about a possible campaign, and of course she mentions bullets again.
From the Sun Sentinel:
Radio talker Joyce Kaufman may run for CongressDuring the 2010 campaign cycle, she was intimately involved in U.S. Rep. Allen West’s successful campaign, frequently introducing him on the campaign trail. After the election, West picked Kaufman as his chief of staff.
But that idea imploded after she was savaged by the left on MSNBC for a campaign season Internet video that showed her attempting to fire up a tea party rally with the line, “if ballots don’t work, bullets will.” Kaufman’s supporters said the comment was taken out of context.
...“I’ve been running around Broward County, Palm Beach County and Dade County, because apparently since I was so instrumental, according to the newest congressman from Congressional District 22 in getting him elected, everybody wants me to get them elected now.
“If I decide to run then there’s nothing … they can throw at me…. I have the thickest skin of anybody that I have ever met. I repel bullets.”
I doubt there will be any "liberals" shooting at her. But she may be right about getting folks elected. Not only was West elected, but he's even becoming beloved by most Florida media, draws huge crowds. Kind of scary to me what has become of my state.
Here are the words from the office of Ted Deutch.
Just spoke with Josh Rogin, Deutch’s chief of staff:
“Joyce Kaufman is a proud member of the tea party. Ted faces the tea party every day on the House floor. He’s fought against the tea party’s relentless agenda of slashing Social Security, privatizing Medicare, decimating public education, and jeopardizing over half a million American jobs.
“He will not shy away from fighting this same fight on the campaign trail on behalf of his constituents in South Florida.”
A word of advice for Deutch, and also some words for Lois Frankel who is said to be running against Allen West.
I say good for you guys for having the courage to run for Congress in this state. Just please do not try to be "bipartisan" and urge us all to compromise. I have already heard Frankel say she doesn't want to be "partisan".
You can not run against people like these guys and not stand up for what you believe as Democrats. Too many years that has happened in Florida, and that word "bipartisan" needs to go.
