1. Scrooge becomes the hero of A Christmas Carol
That sad ending where he actually begins to give a shit about his fellow man didn't test well with Republican audiences. Instead, Ebenezer founds a chain of for-profit work houses, which attracts all kinds of government subsidies for the jobs he creates. Scrooge has Tiny Tim's crutch made into match-sticks for street vending by doe-eyed waifs in thread-bare clothes.
