Diebold Touch-Screen E-Voting Machines on Ebay! Just in time for 2012!
Diebold Touch-Screen E-Voting Machines for Sale on Ebay!

Because practice makes perfect...

With 2012 just around the corner and these babies still in use at polling places all over the country, why not get one or more of them now for your very own?! With one of these babies, you too can learn all the ins and outs of "voting" before the pressure of Election Day, when that "vote" will really "count"!

Great for social clubs, like political parties, or even terrorist groups! Why wait? They're sure to disappear fast! Just like the "votes" cast on them!

Because it's Diebold, you know it comes from a company you "trust", whether you'd like to or not. And with bids starting as low as, well, anything you like, this tens-of-thousands-of-a-kind e-voting machine is sure to be a "steal"!...

1. I am tempted.
I'm not going to blow $1200 on one but I'd love to get my hands on one and see just how secure it really is. Not that it would make any difference. The insecurity of these things has been demonstrated and no one seems to care.

3. I'd really like to get my hands on a a vote tabulator instead.
As Rep. King and Stalin knew, its counting the vote that counts.

6. DRE's and Optical scanners DO count votes, sometimes pretty badly.
Then the machine totals are loaded into a memory card. A "tabulator" is software loaded onto a PC. The individual machines tallies are loaded into the "tabulator" PC via a card reader. Then those totals are added by the PC, sometimes badly as well.

In the recent NY SD7 race, in which control of the state senate was handed over to republicans via judicial decision, optical scanners (touted by Bo Lipari and NYVV as safe to use "because you can count the paper if there are any questions") screwed up royally. In serious need of a manual recount, the race wound up in court. The Dem lawyer began arguments citing the Stalin quote. :eyes: The judge cut him off, essentially telling him to STFU and make a case. The lawyer screwed that up as badly as the scanners performed. End of story.

One of the big problems is that election officials, self-described "election reform advocates", and lawyers charged with protecting the franchise, don't have a handle on how these systems operate...and fail.

Relying on useless memes, like the Stalin quote and "Rove stole the election via computers in the White House", don't help much either.

7. I'd really like to see the King quote in context, with the obvious follow-up questions asked of him.
How come all we ever see is the "We'll take care of the counting" bit? It was Nancy Pelosi's daughter who caught him saying that. Was there no journalistic urge to ask him WTF he meant by it at the time?

As to the "vote tabulator," GEMS has been available online for free for years. What's the big deal? It's a scary piece of software to be sure, but it's NOT hard to get hold of, is it?

4. "More than 10 available."
50,000 is more than ten. Just sayin'.

Should we just kiss any hope of fair elections goodbye right now?

9. I doubt it.
If there's some kind of evidence on the hard drives they wouldn't put them up for sale on eBay.

12. ** (firmware not incuded)
It's not the machine itself that stole the votes - it was the software.

I'd love to get my hands on the original firmware from say, 2000.
