Spaghetti Showdown on the New York subway
Brawl over spaghetti in NYC subway ignites debate
2011-03-27 13:10:00

The city's subway riders can handle panhandlers, rats and tuneless street musicians. But eating spaghetti in a crowded subway car? Well, that's just going too far.

An Internet video that shows New Yorkers brawling over a passenger's right to nosh noodles on the subway has ignited a debate about what people should and shouldn't do in the nation's largest mass transit system.

The video, posted online anonymously, picks up mid-argument, as a woman twirls onto her fork spaghetti from a takeout container and a passenger across the aisle chides her.

"What kind of animals eat on the train like that?" says the woman across the aisle. ............(more)

3. This link has the video...

Read the comments on the video, they are very telling.

IMO this had nothing to do with eating on the train--that's pretty obvious.

16. Damn, they don't even try to hide it anymore. We've slipped back into the fifties; certainly
in Arizona we have.

6. Eating in the train is probably against the rules. Transit cops should bust them.

12. Nope
not against the rules. People do it all the time. Spaghetti is a little different, though.

The woman yelling at her for eating, however, sounded like a racist idiot.

23. Absolutely NO EATING on Los Angeles metro. They'd be ticketed.
Transit cops ride the trains and enforce it. Cameras at every station and on trains.

26. It's against the rules in Chicago too.
I've never seen anyone ticketed for it, though.

13. Why would you care if someone was eating spaghetti or anything else on the subway?
Edited on Mon Mar-28-11 11:38 AM by Bunny
Unless they're spilling it all over you, why would you care?

(Spoken as someone who has ridden the subway exactly once, and that was in Pittsburgh!)

15. I'll take the spaghetti eater over the guy who was carrying the
huge knife one morning on the IND 8th Avenue A line going uptown or the woman, also on the A Line, with the stomach flu who was alternating between retching all over herself and apologizing profusely to those of us lucky to be stuck on the car with her between 59th and 125th.
