TEPCO KNEW.
Edited on Sun Mar-27-11 07:35 PM by kpete
On Friday, a pool of water with a similarly high concentration of radioactive materials was found in the No. 1 reactor's turbine building, causing some restoration work to be suspended.

Similar pools of water were also found in the turbine buildings of the No. 2 and No. 4 reactors, measuring up to 1 meter and 80 centimeters deep, respectively. Those near the No. 1 and No. 3 reactors were up to 40 cm and 1.5 meters deep, respectively.

...........

TEPCO's Fukushima office acknowledged Saturday that it had known earlier that the radiation in the underground level of the turbine building of one of the reactors was extremely high, but had not made the information available to pertinent parties.

Edano criticized the utility's handling of the data, saying unless it reports necessary information to authorities in a timely manner, ''the government will not be able to give appropriate instructions and (TEPCO) will make workers, and eventually the public, distrustful'' of the firm.

3. This is what happens when corporations are left on their to "self-regulate."
It doesn't happen--they only feel responsible to their shareholders and any steps taken are to mitigate their own losses. This isn't a slam against the TEPCO workers but the top brass.

6. And then they sent in poorly paid, poorly trained and poorly equipped
employees of a subcontractor. All three of the workers who are being treated for radiation exposure after stepping into that water worked for subcontractors. I guess Tepco considers them expendable.

11. In this case, TEPCO/Gov't lies & misinformation are putting 100s of thousands at risk
with every tick of the clock, that Japanese citizens aren't getting the COMPLETE UNVARNISHED truth in a timely manner, it's potentially putting their very lives at more (rather than less) risk.

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick ...

This is not about how the history books get written. It's about minimizing the rael life human suffering and tragedy as it's unfolding.

8. So now they've got guys, already heroes for working there to protect
the rest of Japan, sitting in hospital with serious radiation contact burns because they didn't want to admit what was going on and protect the workers?

This is criminal and in Japan, such behavior usually provokes some nasty justice sooner or later.

10. Utterly disgusting and deplorably insensitive behavior by TEPCO
These workers deserved to know the extreme danger that they were facing, instead they relied on and trusted their employer, at the very least they would have been much more cautious and careful when they began to work inside the turbine building. They could have been killed, which in reality the responsible officers in TEPCO management should be considered and charged with criminal negligence causing injuries.
