GE made 14 billion in profits, paid 0 in taxes sooooo....
How about a DU project that compares GE's tax savings with how many jobs they added?

Winger politicians are always saying that lower corporate tax rates will result in more job hires so if GE dodged 14 billion they must a hired a whole butt load of folks.

Can anybody help in finding out how many jobs GE added....or didn't?

1. GE's investment in Reagan
paid off big time for GE. Not so much for the American people.

2. I did this exercise with the oil companies a few years ago ... profits went UP ...
the number of people working in the companies went down.

Probably the same at GE.

3. The right wing pushes this meme nonstop
It's time the left pushes back GE would make a perfect poster child for this.

"how many teachers would (.35% x 14 billion) pay for?"
How many schools could be built
Cops put on the beat
Etc...

4. Do jobs created in Mexico count?
How about jobs created in Brasil? In China?

11. Yes I see what you did there
You acted like a person too ignorant to have a voice worth listening to on this topic, and probably any other.

Grats, hope your stay isn't too brief.

12. Ok I'll try again
No, jobs created in Mexico do not count because Mexican citizens do not pay us taxes.

If GE is gonna pay zero taxes then using right wing logic they should have added jobs in the US.

Sorry my attempt at humor it's mark.

5. You don't want to go down this path
Imhelt and GE gave more to Obama's election campaign than anyone else and he's been rewarded by being the president's chief economic advisor. The sooner this story dies the better.

8. Hardly.
I am an idealist. I stick to my beliefs and ethics regardless.

If it's wrong for someone to make 14.1B$ (5.1B$ domestically) and not pay one dime of taxes, then it's wrong regardless whose friend they are. If this story is toxic and it ruins the President's electability, he should have chosen better friends. He still can. It could be the Madison Ave. and Goldman-Sachs firing parade. Purge the corporatist cancer.

13. I'm with you but
I would venture to say that most Americans either are not or don't know enough to care either way. Real change only occursd from the bottom up, if the majority of people actually understood the vampiristic relationship that exists between corporate America and our political system they would force change.

Obama, is like any other pol, he is beholden to his ideals only to the point that they conflict with those who fund his reelection campaign.

10. GE personnel practices
I think it was Neutron Jack Welch that invented the annual prune the bottom performing 10%. Can the lowest performing 10% every year.

The internal competition and collegiality sabotage must be magnificent in such a Darwinian Workplace.

But Obama recently appointed the GE President Immelt to some competitiveness Commission or something? Yup, taking Paul Volker's spot on outside panel of economic advisers. Appointed last Jan.

"Well, Barack, first thing you do to crank up your revenues is to to avoid paying any TAXES AT ALL in the USA."

Geitner, Summers, Bernake, FOR EXAMPLE: "Gensler, a Baltimore native, is a graduate of the Goldman Sachs “School of Making Money,” becoming partner when he was 30 and eventually the company’s cohead of finance."

I would prefer higher ups from the Mafia to these guys. At least the Mafia can be honorable now and then.
