3. AFTER a Democratic administration implies....
that the dems are out of power.... so wouldn't we all feel more pessimistic? Like we do now (since the mid-terms)!

6. I feel exactly the same. The Democratic establishment's gameplan was clear
Edited on Tue Mar-22-11 09:15 PM by Marr
a long time before Obama got elected, and he repeatedly demonstrated who's side he was on at well-timed moments.

Nothing's going to improve in this country until the political establishment decides it's in their best interest to make concessions. Whether that's as a result of mass strikes or what, I don't know, but I do know we're never going to get meaningful change by asking some bought-and-paid-for Wall Street stooge politely.

8. The money has to come out of elections and the corporate bribery out of congress, but
I really don't see how that's going to happen.

7. Democrats only do things under pressure from a popular mobilization.
Edited on Tue Mar-22-11 09:18 PM by JackRiddler
Unfortunately, only Republicans can achieve a popular mobilization -- i.e., by being so openly barbaric that people get into the streets -- but they are entirely resistant to it.

Once the Democrats are in, it seems demobilization follows instantly.

By the time we're re-mobilized, the Republicans are back in power.

Repeat cycle for many decades until bankruptcy, world flooding and nuclear wars.

Oh well!

13. Obama wouldn't even do anything if we had a massive mobilization.
He knows who pays for his campaign. It's not the ordinary people of America.

16. Unclear. These would be his voters, after all.
It would be on us to prove that either way. No mobilization, no worry that he won't do exactly what the sponsors prefer.

20. Or, under pressure from lobbyists with deep pockets.
Or, under pressure from Republicans who offer deals.

9. I am more resigned...
Edited on Tue Mar-22-11 09:23 PM by CoffeeCat
I fully accept now that our government is ruled by the corporations. Our politicians serve
the corporations not us.

If Obama cannot fix it, no politician can. Obama is a good and decent person, unlike the parade
of nutjob narcissist politicians and Presidents that we've had in the recent past. If Obama
can't change it, we're stuck with what we have--which is basically Fascism.

I'm resigned to the fact that a corrupt government cannot and will not change itself. The answers
are no longer our politicians. The good ones simply lack the power to make sweeping changes and
the bad ones are in the majority (in both parties); firmly entrenched and having the time of
their lives. I'm resigned to the fact that change won't be found in our government or in an election.

Change will have to come from the people.

14. Obama is a good and decent man, but he does not have a strong,
moral direction in his political life.

He bends with the wind. His goal is to make everyone happy. That is what makes him morally weak. He doesn't put doing what is right and best for the most people first. He wants to be surrounded by happy people. But look who is surrounding him: bankers for the most part. And those who aren't bankers are either working for bankers or got rich working for bankers. There are a few other wealthy folks in the mix, but, generally, Obama doesn't hang out with the unemployed guy down the street. He may visit a homeless shelter to dish out food and have his picture taken every once in a while. But he didn't hire an ordinary person on his advisory staff. There isn't a one.

12. I would like a progressive administration.
Obama's idea of liberal is pretty disappointing. The Republicans would be the end of America.

17. well, it is during a Democratic administration, not after it
and compared to having a moron like Bush trying to deal with all the crap that is going down right now I am feeling pretty good.

Can you imagine McCain and Palin in office right now trying to cope with Japan and Libya as well as our ass backward economy?
