1. This is excellent.
Myra, how did you ever find this?

Saw it earlier today and will watch it again. Amazing how steady the camera is considering the roads and all the activity.

2. I have no idea where she found it...
The filming was done from a cable car...see the cable track in front of the camera?

Those are pretty steady.

4. Filmed just four days before the great earthquake of 1906. Ferry Building looks just the same...
Nice find, California Peggy!

8. My dear NYC_SKP!
Thanks, sweetie!

You should thank Mira for finding it...I just stole it from her, lol!

Isn't it remarkable how unchanged the Ferry Building looks?

More than a century later, and it's instantly recognizable.

6. I have a very worn 1906-S half dollar.
I often wonder what that coin has been through. One of the very few buildings to survive the quake was the San Francisco Mint (aka The Granite Lady).

I think though, that the two on the right are the same...one is color, one isn't. Otherwise they are identical...;)

Still, very much worth watching!

Wow things haven't changed all that much. People still drive like that on Market Street, still walk out into the street like that, and all thats needed is YELLOW CAB!

I love my CITY!!

And prior to the '06 quake.

Isn't it?

So very different from today, and yet we see people doing the same sorts of things they always do...

I love it!

25. THANK YOU!!!
In addition, here's a feature from the 60 Minutes show depicting more about the making of this historic footage. Includes interviews of people who helped restore the film that was made into videos like the one in the OP:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYHGj19RrF0

This was all great. As several people noted in interviews, it was sad to think of the looming disaster that the people in the film had no idea was about to happen.
