Fukushima Workers vs Present "Economic Royalty": Selfless Givers vs Greedy Takers/Robbers
Edited on Fri Mar-18-11 07:05 PM by checks-n-balances
It struck me riding home this afternoon, tuning in on the middle of the NPR story about workers at the Fukushima nuclear plant who are virtually laying down their lives to save their fellow human beings from being subjected to radiation disaster. For some reason, I thought about the glaring contrast between the heroic workers, and those over here who have worked tirelessly for years to use all their wealth, might & power to overturn all semblance of humane governmental structure within our society that helps those who cannot help themselves. It's like the teachings of Gandhi or Jesus vs. right wing propaganda/the writings of Ayn Rand. The moniker of "Economic Royalty" given by FDR decades ago sounds too nice and doesn't begin to describe the evil behind the actions of their latter-day followers. Recent despicable comments by Limbaugh about the Japan tragedy probably speak more about the truth of the mindset of these people than they would ever admit. (BTW, have any of their ilk condemned his comments? If so, I missed it.)

The courage of the nuclear workers towers over the cowardice & selfishness of those who want to obliterate the poor & middle class with their policies, devising ways that WE can further support THEM. Devising new and more devious ways every They to twist the truth that used to prevail within our society so that it is no longer recognized by the average citizen. Controlling the courts, the media, and the government that is supposed to be for "We, The People" and destroying what is left of our democracy. It's one thing to desire to live a pampered, privileged life; those who want to create a new feudal system will not be happy, apparently, until they have EVERYTHING and we have NOTHING.

I generally think we live in a world more full of gray area than one with only black & white, but I think the contrast between the two entities in the title of this post couldn't be more crystal clear.

Sociopaths/psychopaths who believe that the poor & vulnerable are all that way because they deserve it, and the uber-wealthy deserve to rob them of whatever they have left, or at least treat them as sub-human:

(just one recent example)

Then there are those who have been committing economic fraud against the American public for years - too numerous to mention right now.

"The Virtue of Selfishness" indeed.

Contrast with the NPR story:

As horrific as the Fukushima disaster is, at least within it there are examples of the highest type of behavior toward "the public good" being held up for all the world to see. By contrast, it's also horrific that there are those in power over here who want to wipe out completely the concept of "the public good" from our collective memory.

2. Sort of "A Tale of Two Tragedies," if you will
Tragedy in Japan and Tragedy in the U. S. One has been swift, dramatic, and mostly unexpected; the other a slower, more subtle death of what we were and could have been. Unless something swift & dramatic can be done to stop U.S. Corporatism, both are tragedies.

3. I meant to include this link, too - I just saw that it's in the Greatest Threads
"War On The Poor: Minnesota Republicans Want To Bust Poor People Who Carry Cash." BEYOND DESPICABLE!!

I just can't get it out of my mind the contrast between this mentality and the one that puts the lives of others before one's own safety. Hit me like a ton of bricks today for some reason - maybe because it's such a clear-cut contrast.
