US readying plans to enforce Libya no-fly zone
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration was readying plans to enforce a no-fly zone in Libya with the help of Arab countries, officials said Thursday as the United Nations Security Council voted to authorize the move.

These officials, who spoke after a closed-door briefing in Congress, said they expected the attempt to ground Moammar Gadhafi's air force could begin by Sunday or Monday. The effort likely would involve jet fighters, bombers and surveillance aircraft.

The disclosures came as Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said in Tunisia that a no-fly zone would include "certain actions taken to protect the planes and the pilots, including bombing targets like the Libyan defense systems."

The details of any military action were unclear, and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz told Congress in public testimony it would take as much as a week to impose a no-fly zone over Libya.

1. That'll be a comfort to the dead of Benghazi.
Really wish we had done this sooner.

3. Help is on it's way for them, if they can hold on.
I expect to see airstrikes from the Brits and French shortly, maybe tonight.

4. I can't support this neither
The Arabs are trying to gain the sympathy of the Western world for assistance against their oppressive governments. However, the murder and rape of Black African migrants in Benghazi (East Libya) reduces the value of anti-Qaddafi rebels claim to justice. The rebels lack of liberation virtues and principles will cause the Black World to engender more support for Muammar Qaddafi against his Arab enemies.

7. Great, another adventure.
And what a surprise, we'll be allying with jihadists again. Well, that's good news for the DHS budget. But, hey, the UN signed off on it. I'm sure this will mean wonderful things for the people of Libya, who we are all so concerned for. This isn't going to turn into a full out ethnic cleansing campaign by our tribal "partners", followed by a further descent into a total kleptocracy. Instead, we are going to lift up this brave nation into a full fledged modern democracy. Just like all the other times the West decided to help Africans.

8. Sad that Chavez' offer to mediate was turned down.

Maybe at that time they thought the rebellion would succeed in no time.
They underestimated, that in Libya the tribal rivalries are still present. So it never was a rebellion of "the people", only of one segment.

Now that the anti government forces are loosing, they are propped up by an intervention.

Let's be clear. This is not for the sake of the People of Libya.
Astonishingly the only uprising in the Arab world that was armed nearly from the start.
And a media storm about lots of unsubstantiated claims by one faction. (that includes Al Jazeera).
Egypt and Tunisia are out of the public focus.

Hell, there are lots of civil wars. And this one isn't the most cruel one around. Libya has oil.
Libya sits between two countries where the people surprisingly got rid of their western dictators. Now the task for the empire is: stall the revolutions there.
Libya, at least until Gadaffi recently gave in to the IMF, wasn't like Egypt. Not that blatant poverty.

A lot of bloodshed could have been avoided had they negotiated in time.
And Libya will have to pay for this "liberation".

Striking the hypochrisy:
In the Gulf-states the US back violent oppression.

It's all about empire.
