Tokyo Passengers Trigger U.S. Airport Detectors, N.Y. Post Says
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-17/tokyo-passengers-trigger-u-s-airport-detectors-n-y-post-says.html

Radiation detectors at Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago O’Hare airports were triggered when passengers from flights that started in Tokyo passed through customs, the New York Post reported.

Tests at Dallas-Fort Worth indicated low radiation levels in travelers’ luggage and in the aircraft’s cabin filtration system; no passengers were quarantined, the newspaper said.

Details of the incident at O’Hare weren’t immediately clear, the Post said.

1. It's starting.
We need a lockdown for incoming flights from Tokyo at least- and frankly, I'm not to thrilled about any jet flying through that shit, no matter where it's from. I'm hoping the fallout lands in the sea, hopefully far away in the sea. The wind will bring some of it here but hopefully very, very little. I'm not keen on planes being vectors for this shit, nomatter how it winds up getting on the plane.

Does one atom of the shit drifting over Fukushima give you cancer? How about 2 atoms? How about a dozen atoms? How many atoms are in 1,240 tons?

I'm sure there are more than enough to go around, I just don't want any of them being FedEx'd over any sooner than the wind can blow 'em.

...possible given that most of the eastern ports have suffered major damage. However, there is at least one military port south of Tokyo (not by much) but radiation readings have jumped past normal there and since the fallout situation is ultimately unclear, I don't know what could be done immediately.

China, Korea are not likely to accept Japanese refugees willingly in any numbers. Japan does not have a great history with its neighbors.

6. CBS: Japan radiation sets off O'Hare airport alarms
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/17/national/main20044341.shtml

Trace amounts of radiation from Japan have been detected in Chicago, CBS News station WBBM-TV reports.

Travelers coming in from Japan on Wednesday triggered radiation detectors at O'Hare International Airport as they passed through customs. Only very small amounts of radiation were detected.

"We are aware of the radiation," said Chicago Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride. "We are adding screenings and precautionary measures."

In one instance, radiation was detected in a plane's air filtration system. Radiation was also found in luggage and on passengers on flights from Japan.
