'Brutal numbers for Kasich'

A citizens recall -- which Ohio Teamsters are working hard on -- looks eminently doable. PPP reports

Ohio Senate Bill 5 may not be in effect for very long...54% of voters in the state say they'd repeal it in an election later this year while just 31% say they'd vote to let the bill stand.

The support for repealing SB 5 is reflective of a high level of support for unions and workers in Ohio, more so than we saw in Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago. 63% of voters in the state supportive collective bargaining for public employees to only 29% who oppose it. ...And 65% think public employees should have the same rights they do now- or more- while only 32% believe they should have fewer rights.

There are two things particularly notable. ... The first is that non-union households are supportive of the public employees. 54% support their collective bargaining rights to 36% in opposition and 44% say they would vote to repeal SB 5 to 38% who would let it stand. ...

The other thing that's worth noting is the independents. A lot of attention has been given to the way what's been going on in Ohio and Wisconsin is galvanizing the Democratic base, but it's also turning independents who were strongly supportive of the GOP in the Midwest last year back against the party.................

NO RECALL in Ohio. I live here and was simply shocked that we can't get rid of his waste of flesh.

We had a huge protest today.....in his neighborhood. We brought his neighborhood to a complete HALT. The police blocked all the streets and let us march and yell. His neighborhood is full of McMansions. We had a blast.

King Kasich refused to live in the Governor's Home and so us taxpayers had to pay $1.67 million for security to his residence.

We marched and chanted LOUDLY to his home today....it was too cool. First time I have been proud of my fellow Ohioans for a long time.

May he slip in shower, hit his head.....he is an organ donor....his wife is sick of him......a woman can dream.

edit for typo

21. Even a "Diebold" election has to have close numbers prior to the vote.
No one will believe "funny numbers" with overwhelming majorities magically flipping.

11. lots of my union co-workers are republicans and conservatives
they vote that way in a general election, and endlessly spout the right wing talking points.

But they are union members. The perception that all union members are liberal democrats is grossly mistaken.

15. Up until now they could afford to be Republicans
They may continue to vote Republican, but it will be at their peril. Many of the the hard-fought gains that unions made during the past several decades became standardized in the workforce to the point that those with a conservative bent coupled with a lack of historic perspective might take them for granted. The Republicans will gladly accept their votes, and will pursue their divide-and-conquer tactics. But if conservative-thinking union members continue to provide anti-labor Republicans with a margin of victory, they will have unwittingly bought themselves a one-way ticket out of the (former) middle class.

Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 01:35 PM by JohnnyRingo
He's a tea bagger who shrugged his shoulders when I pointed out that his Kasich vote last November would cause him to suffer personally. He hinted that he was compensated on his merits and that the union doesn't do much for him anyway. Besides, he added, he's retiring this year. I told him that the best thing Ohio could do is take the AM radios out of the state trucks.

I haven't seen him since last fall, but I'm looking forward to it. I'll tell him that I've had a change in political heart since Kasich began cutting out the deadwood in Ohio. Asshole.

4771977, Kasich's budget slashes aid to local goverments, libraries
Posted by upstatecajun on Tue Mar-15-11 05:35 PM

Source: Columbus Dispatch

Local governments would see a cut of 25 percent per year and state colleges and universities would be limited to 3.5-percent tuition increases under Gov. John Kasich's new two-year budget.

That move would cost counties, municipalities and townships $167.1 million the first year and $388.2 million starting in the second year.

17. Them there republicans don't want no book learnin' goin' on
It's very similar to the literacy ban during the era of black slavery -- knowledge is a powerful thing. An educated citizenry has a much higher probability of critical thinking, which doesn't bode well for propagandists. It's not just about education budget cuts and closing libraries -- it's also about keeping just enough of the population ignorant to the point that they accept conservative talking points and vote accordingly, regardless of what their economic position might be.

16. I think this is why we aren't seeing the level of protest they have in Madison
All we need are about 250,000 signatures to put the issue on the November ballot, and that's a snap. I plan to volunteer myself to knock on doors, and I expect very rare Resistance here in NE Ohio.

Now if the right court will suspend the issue until after the election, it'll be like it never happened and Kasich will truly find out that he overstepped his bounds.

22. Cinnci is well known to the rest of Ohio as a bastion of conservatism .
Edited on Tue Mar-15-11 04:49 PM by JohnnyRingo
We jokingly refer to it as "North Kentucky". As much as that heavily populated part of Ohio is in Kasich's corner, it's more than offset by the Cleveland area and all points East & South East of there all the way to and including Youngstown, which is a haven for union sentiment and liberal voting. The closest this district has ever come to Republican rule was Jim Trafficant, a conservative Democrat. Since then Tim Ryan has consistantly received 2 out of every 3 votes.

Since the newspaper in our area in NE Ohio is corporate owned by Gannett, it slants right. They're feeling the backlash themselves this month:

31. Do not call your city of retired U-boat Captains Kentucky
We have our own burdens. The Kentucky demographic is a separate entity than Cincy. Our northern Tribal Regions are full of your white folks moving TO Kentucky. We have a Scot-Irish-Black main demographic. Cincy has a German. The best thing that came out of Ohio is an empty bus.
What is the difference between Ohio and Yogurt? Yogurt has a culture.
As do we despite the tedious Kentucky stereotypes perpetuated by my SO CALLED liberal brothers and sisters.

26. They are trying to take over our way of life, which is the "bait and switch" concept of the GOP.
Since the Tea Party started out as a corporate-fed monster PAC in 2009 screaming that Obama was trying to overtake our government -- it is actually the GOP who is trying to take over our government and our way of life in the biggest "bait and switch" swindle of all time.

There is no Tea Party. Just a GOP party.
And they are one and the same.

He still gets to be governor
He still gets paid
He still gets to run roughshod over the state
If the numbers stay bad, he'll just choose to not run again
He knows that angry people eventually cool down
He can always get his Fox gig back

It will be a long wait till the next election. I guess the only option is impeachment and that is extremely unlikely. Strictland will probably be too old by then. We had better find a candidate that has widespread appeal. If there is any state left by then, that is.
