Our vote to go Union today...

There were two venues involved. Apparently, the "other" venue all got raises this week. And today, the vote magically failed.

Well, I signed a card for representation.

This was supposed to be the turning point in our lives. I'd get my card (if the vote passed) and suddenly I'd be able to fill my plate with work...for real wages...and possibly benefits.

I never considered it wouldn't pass. Looks like I just nuked my career.

1. I have noticed...

That it is wise to have a general headcount of who will vote yes or no when they go behind the curtain.

I recall that we started a union in Georgia at a parts warehouse and we got a unanimous vote. And I was counting the votes for yay or nay. :-)

2. There was treachery at every turn...

trust me...they did the count. But up to about two weeks ago. Then everything got quiet . And today, the vote failed. Something happened between two weeks ago and today. The other venue all got raises...and I wouldn't be surprised in a couple of years from now, the guys at the "no" venue will have magically replaced all the guys at the "yes" venue.

4. I feel your pain. I was President of my local about a day when

someone called and said the president of the classified section had decertified the union and rammed a vote for another one, the FREAKING NEA. I still feel the bottom dropping out. Treasonous scum go to hell. I am sorry for this. Hang in there, honey.

5. Those shortsighted idiots...

they would have gotten the same raise with the Union...AND had yearly COL raises...AND gotten their cards (which would have entitled them to A-list gigs, benefits, pension).

The problem is that they're all green behind the ears at the "no" venue. Many have only been doing this a year or two. The "yes" venue are lifers. Most, if not all, having been doing this for a decade or more. Well the lifers know not to believe the promises of the bosses.

The guys at the "no" venue? They still hang onto the bosses every word in attempt to suck up.

would represent stagehands. IATSE is the only one I know of.

They represent everyone connected to electrical works.

11. You could go with Kentuck's rec. IBEW

Or the Teamsters, United Steelworkers, or even my union Transport Workers, we all have different divisions that would be more than willing to help you.

8. I have a theory that as long as there is a threat of a union...

some employers will do the right thing.

Others it take a full union membership to force them to treat the employees with respect.
