Developing: IAEA Says Fire Caused Radioactive Release

The International Atomic Energy Agency said it was told by Japanese authorities that a fire at a spent fuel storage pond is releasing radioactive material from the Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant.

The IAEA said Tuesday afternoon it was told by Japanese authorities that dose rates of up to 400 milliSievert were being released into the atmosphere per hour at the site where the walls of three nuclear reactors exploded and a fourth reactor caught fire.

Japanese authorities told reporters at a press conference Tuesday that the fire at the number four reactor had been extinguished.
