Russia's Zhirinovsky calls on Japanese to move to Russia
Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the colorful and flamboyant leader of Russia's LDPR party, has called on Japanese to leave "the dangerous islands" and move to the unpopulated Russian territories, the newsru.com website reported on Sunday.

Zhirinovsky, 64, also deputy speaker of the lower house, offered Russian government to start talks with Japan over Japanese nationals' migration to Russia.

"In this case we do not share any islands, we offer the way to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe," newsru.com quoted Zhirinovsky as saying. "Russia will even benefit if such hardworking people join us," he added.

The politician said he was serious since "the Japanese nation is under the threat of extinction in the near future."

3. Interesting that his Liberal Democratic Party is considered ultra-nationalist and
pro-ethnic Russian yet is inviting 125 million non-ethnic Russians to join a country of 140 million.

Obviously, this is not a serious proposal. Maybe it's well-intentioned at a time of great tragedy; maybe it's a dig at people who live in uninhabitable "dangerous islands" with little natural resources yet have a much higher standard of living. Hypothetically, it would be interesting to see what the Japanese population would do with an economy that has the resources that Russia's has.

Zhirinovsky's Liberal Democratic Party: "the party's main policy stands as nationalism and a focus in law and order." ... "Despite the name, a widespread opinion outside of Russia is that the party's ideology is not liberal and it is often regarded ... as an ultranationalist party."

In specific, the LDPR's main proposals include:

Reform and consolidation of Russia's judicial system;
Capital punishment for those convicted of terrorism, premeditated murder, and other serious crimes;
The abolition of "non-traditional" and "fanatic" religious sects in Russia;
State ownership of strategic sectors of the economy, particularly natural resources, alcohol, tobacco, and agriculture;
Lower taxes for domestic producers;
Unification between Russia and Belarus;
The right to work;
Radical reform of the social insurance system;
State support for science-intensive technologies and agriculture;
The abolition of government corruption;
Russian economic sovereignty/protectionism;
Control of all agricultural land by the state.

4. He hates Asians, so he wants them to live in Russia?
What a bizarre, typically Russian little man he is.

5. I was hoping America would take them in.
I want them. I'd love it if America could host Japan II (and be way way way nicer to them than we have in the past), but I really hope it doesn't come to that. I hope they can recover. I'm sure they would prefer that too.

What they are dealing with is not a 1/2 punch(earthquake and tsunami), that they have received. It is a 1/2/3/4 punch(earthquake, tsunami, nuclear meltdown fears, and a volcano erupting). Good grief. When is the horror ever going to end for them? OMG, it is beyond horrible. There are no words. :(
