Credibility gap: US news on nuke disaster differs from Europe...
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 12:49 AM by regnaD kciN
I was just listening to Radio Suisse Romande (French-speaking Switzerland) over the Internet, and the news report was somewhat different from what we've been hearing over here. While we're being told that there was the possibility of a meltdown at the Japanese plant, the RSR news was saying that the Japanese had confirmed that partial meltdown had taken place at two of the reactors at the plant. Oh, and remember the explosion in which four workers were injured, none seriously? Well, the Swiss news report said that one worker had been killed in the explosion, and eleven others were injured.

:wtf:

them. CNN is now talking about a melt down possibly occurring right now, questioning it ... We sure get a lot of filtered/diffused news anymore.

4. Someone remarked in another thread that they'd trust Russian media over CNN on
this subject. I found it sadly amusing because I've increasingly thought of Pravda while watching cable news over the last several years. It's not just this issue where I'd give the nod to foreign sources.

2. can you change your title to read "credibility"? I think it's what you meant to say.
And no, I'm not surprised that we're getting crap news here.

3. I am listening to NHK and... it's been three hours
that they are talking of a meltdown. Problem is... the Nooz here are not on NOW... that is problem one.

As to the data, I got Russian TV on, and NHK steaming, different from our pretend nooz.

Our pretend nooz needs to convince all of us this is not serious.

Man reach for these

You will feel much better.

Side effects, thinking there are kittens coming out these things, and all is safe with the world

7. You nooz you lose.
You can bet that if we were invading some country we'd have live coverage 24/7. Fireworks are fun to watch.

9. Well they are fun to watch
:-)

And you do not need to explain too much when this happens

And as long as you keep your cameras away from the actual effects, it almost looks like this...

Yes, the second is movie special effects from Apocalypse Now

14. The bravery of being out of range
Hey bartender over here
Two more shots
And two more beers
Sir, turn up the TV sound
The war has started on the ground
Just love those laser guided bombs
They're really great
For righting wrongs
You hit the target
And win the game
From bars 3,000 miles away
3,000 miles away
We play the game
With the bravery of being out of range
We zap and maim
With the bravery of being out of range
We strafe the train
With the bravery of being out of range
We gain terrain
With the bravery of being out of range
With the bravery of being out of range
We play the game
With the bravery of being out of range

11. All networks are now talking about meltdowns, even Fox.
CBS has a headline that reads "Japan's Chernobyl?" MSNBC and ABC say there are meltdowns at 2 reactors. So word is getting out in a big way.

The money involved is billions maybe trillions, when it is that much truth doesn't mean squat. The credibility gap is a good way to put it. Our media has no credibility much like a 3rd world nation.

6. I have been noticing for several years now,
about 10 really, that many times there is a big difference between what is being reported in this country and in other countries around the world. It is really pretty prima facie these days that we have a very controlled press.

But thanks for the info. I was having problems buying that only 4 people were injured in that explosion given its size. Your report sounds much more plausible.

8. The US news has a build up factor.
The entire story was let out pretty early on yet the US news agencies were trickling out info as if the info wasn't forthcoming.

17. The old trick of delaying the news 'til it's old news:
" . . . Napoleon . . . said that it wasn't necessary to completely suppress the news; it was sufficient to delay the news until it no longer mattered."
-- attributed by PRWatch to Martin A. Lee & Norman Solomon, Unreliable Sources: A Guide to Detecting Bias in News Media (New York: Lyle Stuart, 1991), p. xvii.
