Family Guy Writer Tweets Pearl Harbor Joke In Response To Japanese Earthquake
:wtf:

I’ve hardly seen a minute of any of them for a good while now, but I always thought the distinction between The Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy worked out like this: The Simpsons is humanitarian and generally rather liberal; South Park is libertarian, but cares more for the gag itself than for what this gag might mean; Family Guy is a wretched disaster that is neither funny nor clever nor even manages a meaningful point of view of any kind.

I’d be happy to admit I’m wrong about this if you provide sufficient argument. Those are just my impressions, from years of enjoying The Simpsons, not really caring for South Park and trying to make friends turn off Family Guy and do something less boring instead.

Nonetheless, when a particularly tasteless tweet started rolling around the web last night, and I found out it had been written by Family Guy scriptwriter Alec Sulkin, I wasn’t too surprised. Here’s what he said:

If you wanna feel better about this earthquake in Japan, google “Pearl Harbor death toll”.

1. What a cold hearted jerk.
I would boycott Family Guy except I'm already boycotting them for their pro-Republican episode with Rush Limbarf. :puke:

I hope he at least gets flack for that, something, anything. That was over the line and beyond cruel and unnecessary.

:puke: I like it. And I also don't watch Family Guy, but love the Simpson's.

2. What an asshole
How about this, Mr. Sulkin: if you wanna feel better about Pearl Harbor, google "Hiroshima and Nagasaki"

There, how's that?

14. That the victims' great-grandparents killed Americans so they deserve to die, basically
That particular bullshit's been flying around the net since yesterday afternoon; a whole lot of Americans haven't let that go yet, and think the current population of Japan was involved.

4. FWIW, he apologized for it:
thesulk Alec Sulkin
Yesterday death toll = 200. Today = 10 thousand. I am sorry for my insensitive tweet. It's gone.

6. Good.
But it suddenly became "insensitive" with the advent of a higher death toll? Whatever...apology appreciated.

Concentrating on just the death toll is weird.

8. Maybe someone should remind him
of the death toll from saturation bombing of Tokyo, and atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

As someone said, an eye for an eye leaves all of us blind.

18. This apology is even worse, imo
What, 200 deaths is amusing but 10,000 not so much? What's the threshold?

20. So by his logic, anything that kills up to 2,402 Japanese is worth the joke.
That's not an apology, it's a confession of dementia.

i'm not trying to make light of the situation but who really cares what a family guy writer writes. i mostly find the show annoying but i've also liked some of it. some comedians push the line - hell cross the line - but that's what they do. it's not supposed to be comfortable and it's certainly not for everyone - or most people even. i think he prolly should of at least added the phrase "too soon?" to the end of it.

Happy to hear at least that it wasn't the actual guy behind Family Guy (his name escapes me), but some subordinate scriptwriter "Alec Sulkin"

Boo. I like Family Guy.

The people who caused Pearl Harbor were not these innocent people who's houses got swept away in the tsunami, idiots. Nor were most of the Japanese we killed and detained that I mentioned in the subject.
