My protest sign - adding the flag of Japan
I don't know yet what my sign will have on it - there's just too much to say to be able to put it on one sign. But whatever I do, I'll be adding the Japanese flag, to honor those who are suffering through unbearable pain and grief.

that was sweet.

oh hell, I really need to edit to add a :sarcasm:. I'd hate for my post to go over anyone's head. :eyes:

HA, edited again, to mourn the loss of the above poster. How quickly they leave us. Here, when I was just going to ask if I should add a to my protest sign, instead!

4. RENGO logo on the left

RENGO is the largest trade union national center in Japan with 6.8 million membership.

8. I'm curious. Did you consider suffering elsewhere?
There's been some massive disasters happening this year and unlike New Zealand, Japan was lucky enough to have been as well prepared for the earthquake there as they could be. I don't think a protest flag is a place for selective acknowledgement of a disaster that's happened in one country only, and yr going to lose the entire point it is of whatever yr protesting if you include the flag of every country round the world where people are suffering...

10. yes, I've considered suffering elsewhere
but I've been coming to Democratic Underground for years for my suffering, no reason to change now.

oh, not what you meant.

Maybe I'm tired, but your logic passes me right by. I shouldn't say anything on my sign because I can't say it all? Well, I suppose that I shouldn't carry a sign saying anything about Wisconsin, because other states are going through similar battles with their conservative administrations. I've honored Libya on one of my signs in the past, does that help or make it worse?

I have been creating new signs for almost every day of these protests, and if I can't get my point across with the enormous distraction of a red dot, then perhaps I need to hire a professional designer for my sign.

13. Yeah, you must be tired. It's not that hard to understand...
Where did I say you couldn't say anything on yr sign? I didn't. What I was trying to point out was that there seems to be a bit of a lack of focus when someone's putting the flag of only one of many countries that have gone through a natural disaster on a sign that's protesting about something else. It doesn't make any sense to do that...

6. Could you put on one side of your sign
"DemocraticUnderground.com Supports Wisconsin Workers"?

7. I'll do that! :)
I usually have had some reference to my being self-employed or a business owner in solidarity. I'm happy to add your words!

Thank you, and all of DU, for the support.

11. yeah,
I've realized that in all of my picture-taking at the protests, I've frequently forgotten to take pictures of my own signs. Some of them have been pretty good, too, if I may say so myself!

My concern for tomorrow is that I'll be short on time in the morning. I need to leave here at about 8:30, and I can't seem to get any sleep!

12. Easy tie-in.
The people most likely to be injured or killed in any tsunami/hurricane/typhoon are poor people, living in lowlands, in substandard housing. Japan's union membership has declined since the 1980s, from about 43% of workers to about 6.5%. There is a direct correlation between who suffers most and who suffers least, and it is tied together by economics.
