What Scott Walker's "budget repair" bill costs me:
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 02:16 PM by murielm99
This is from an email from my daughter. She is a library assistant and a musician trying to find a full time job. She is a member of the American Federation of Musicians:

As a library assistant, she makes $1212.00 gross every two weeks. $15.15 per hour, 40 hours per week.

She contributes 5.8% of that, $70.30 to the Wisconsin Retirement system. That could change from the defined contribution at the whim of the governor, with his new bill.

Her health coverage costs $529.00 per month. She contributes 12.6% of this, or $66.67 per month. If Greedy Scott gets his way, $103.64 per check will be gone. She will make less than she did last year.

She fills in at the Madison Symphony, and plays in the Racine Symphony, which is per service. She teaches an online class through city colleges of Chicago. She is a graduate of Lawrence and Carnegie Mellon.

What the hell is she supposed to do? Get a fourth job?

She says she will have to leave Madison, and that will break her heart. She can't handle a two hundred dollar per month pay cut.

Yes, she is just a greedy public employee. (Do I need sarcasm here)?

1. I'm very sorry. I just hope that those in Wisconsin can get the recalls done ASAP and reverse this.

4. I am sorry for your daughter, and all of my 'daughters' here at work
Edited on Thu Mar-10-11 02:23 PM by Lifelong Protester
my heart is heavy today, and I weep not only for the present, but the future, if people do not wake up and 'get it'.

edited to add: I think most folks here know I am a school administrator/teacher. I will be hit hard also.

6. But she gets some of that back... didn't you know?
The state will no longer withhold her union dues from her paycheck. So all she has to do is stop paying them and she'll save much of what she lost.

Wasn't that thoughtful of the governor? < /sarcasm>

out of members' paychecks. She believes it.

15. Sorry... you've misspelled "imagined"
It somehow came out "discovered".

All of 57 posts and you've already decided you've got people pegged, eh?

I am most certainly NOT an opponent of unions.

You would be very surprised.

Mom? Is that you?

Seriously. If you're saying that you're a prior member who was banned... hinting at it isn't the wisest course of action. KWIM?

Either way. Welcome (or welcome back) to DU!

On edit.... Sir? Is the The Magistrate? :)
