GM plans to add second shift at Volt assembly plant
General Motors Co. will add a second shift at its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant early next year to bolster production of the Chevrolet Volt, according to a newspaper report.

The second shift would add about 900 to 1,000 jobs at the plant, Teri Quigley, plant manager for the Detroit-Hamtramck factory, told the Detroit Free Press today. Laid-off GM workers would get first opportunity to apply. Workers will begin training later this year with full production ramping up in early 2012.

“Detroit Hamtramck has started some of the pre-work related to adding an additional shift at the plant,” spokesman Chris Lee said in an e-mail to Automotive News.

Lee said the plant “wants to be in a position to bring on a shift as quickly as possible when we are asked to increase production to meet market demand.”

The naysayers bark, they aren't selling no one wants them. The oil barons say, pshaw, electric cars haha.

I guess GM just wants to make boat anchors for the tankers?

4. Just did an image search on it.
That's a sweet looking car. I've only got a few more years until 2/3 of my kids are off to college and I can get the car of my dreams rather than a mommy-mobile. It will definitely be a hybrid.

5. Yep, the word from the oil cartel is that the Volt and Leaf are "non-starters". Well,
with gas going up there needs to be a vocal DEMAND to produce super gas efficient, or alternative, cars. We've had enough poison oil thank you very much. Call your dealers....all brands...and ask if they have their new electrics in yet! Dang it!

6. We now have a 'demo use only ' car in inventory.
Cannot be sold until September and then as a used car. it is to be driven by employees, their relatives, taken to events, and generally even used to make coffee runs.

Word of mouth, the best advertising short of LOLcats.
