portraying the WI protesters as a rabble rousing mob.

The idea is to change public perception of the protesters, to marginalize them from the "rest" of society.

OF COURSE, the action last night by the WI repubs was primarily to incite the protesters to violence. It is very clear to me that Rove et al had advance knowledge of what the republicans were going to do and got cameras in place to watch it unfold.

It doesn't appear that the footage they purport to have -- which was shown on MJ today -- depicting the crowd's reaction, will sustain this meme.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to try planting agents provocateurs again. My guess is that the WI protesters are on high alert and won't let this happen...

I don't think it was primarily or even secondarily meant to incite violence, even though the r's were afraid of the consequences of their own action and escaped the Capitol through tunnels under security escorts.

It's all a bit too convenient, IMO. We know how Rove loves to control the narrative. I don't think he was operating alone. The various other state governments have been moving on public labor union busting since they won last November. There are real limitations out there so it won't work some places, but the beachhead has been secured in this battle, with further invasion to come...

The only thing he doesn't know is how dicey this situation could be for him. In his arrogance, he thinks he can pull the PR strings and cloud peoples' minds. However, the financial situation that so many Americans are feeling right now might just throw his plans into a crash and burn.

at least twice on Rachel Maddow & Lawrence Last Word last nite. I would be the GOP/TP-ers are doing everything they can to get a violent reaction (remember in the 60's how the GOP used the demonstrations to scare folks in to voting GOP?) I've seen lots of calls by the "union bosses" to remain calm & civil, so I'm betting they suspect the GOP is up to inciting riots. Look at how the WI GOP claimed $7.5 million in damages by the protesters, but later reduced it to #350,000 (which more than likely included repair work previously identified as needed for their capital building/grounds).

I'm more and more of the opinion that if GOP opens their mouth, a lie will follow.

Don't let yourself believe these events are anything other than a full out assault on the middle-class/poor by the GOP and it is happening everywhere the GOP has any sway/power in the state & local governments.

You can pound Obama about all this, but Obama has repeatedly told us that WE are the engine of change and it is OUR power that will steer those changes. Letter to the editor, calls to our representatives and actually getting off the couch and getting in the face of the GOP (face-to-face meetings, town halls, demonstrations) then following through by getting out the VOTE is the only way to make that change actually happen. Obama cannot do this alone...it takes each and every one of us!

It is not going to be easy to convince millions of working class Republicans who have been brainwashed to the extent that they are little more them lemmings gladly marching lockstep to their own economic destruction. The few voices of reason are being being drown out in the storm of propaganda being spewed 24/7 by the right-wing. These people will resort to out right lies in demonizing anyone who opposes their agenda of enslavement.
