Satire can't be satirical if it can't get far enough away from reality to look as ridiculous as satire should.

I grew up on Carlin albums (that dates me), but I don't know his post 1980 stuff by heart like the 70s . . .

like, on someone taking something from your cart in the grocery store

The point on satire is spot on.
