Women stand to lose in public employee union showdown

Women represent half the public sector...but lost 83 percent of the jobs during the recovery

Traditionally female industries of education and health care are targets for budget cuts all over the country

And nevermind these industries take care of us, our children, our parents and the disabled


(And if you want to save money (and it won't be much) on the backs of these people, their families, their children and the people they serve and/or care for...well, I can't say what I think of that.)

Jobs targeted for cuts as states struggle to balance their recession-ravaged budgets are predominantly those held by women. Women represent approximately half of the public sector workforce but lost the majority of the jobs -- 83 percent during the recovery, according to the National Women's Law Center. Traditionally female industries of education and health care are those now targeted across the nation for further budget cuts.

Jobs the Wisconsin governor would exempt from cuts include police and firefighters, jobs typically held by men. And most of the federal stimulus money targets infrastructure construction jobs predominantly held by men.
