TX GOP Aims to Punish Hiring Illegals UNLESS, Maid or Gardner
(CNN) -- Amid a number of bills filed in Texas that address the issue of illegal immigration, one, proposed by Republican state Rep. Debbie Riddle, stands out.

As proposed, House Bill 1202 would create tough state punishments for those who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire an unauthorized immigrant. Violators could face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

But it is an exception included in the bill that is drawing attention. Those who hire unauthorized immigrants would be in violation of the law -- unless they are hiring a maid, a lawn caretaker or another house worker.http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/03/01/texas.immigration.bill/index.html?eref=mrss_igoogle_cnn

1. Well, we wouldn't want the ruling class to have to do without

Juan out trimming the hedges or Maria scrubbing the toilets for $5 an hour, would we?

3. Unthinkable

The thought of the rich ladies in TX having to give up Maria and Juan is just wrong.

Their expensive fake nails will surely suffer.

2. Of couse. Wouldn't want to prosecute the rich.
:sarcasm:

And you can bet middle managers, not company owners/CEOs, will be the ones prosecuted for illegal hiring by companies, if there are any prosecutions.

6. Frankly, I think this is a very happy compromise.
But that's just me. Of course, one caveat should be that these people have recourse if their employers become abusive.

10. Does houseworker include construction?
By taking lawn caretakers and maids out of the mix, they've got the majority of their cheap labor covered. Conservatives sure like their rigged "free market" economy.

11. So, let me see if I understand this correctly.
We are against illegal immigrants unless they are scrubbing our toilets, minding our kids or mowing our lawns for less than the prevailing wage. Gotcha.

12. The special Republicon Socialist exemption
Fatcat Republicons get special tax breaks, and special illegal workers breaks.

Republicon socialists really are 'special' and not at all like Americans.

15. So many thoughts, so little time: 1) Would *those* be those fabled jobs that citizens don't want to
do?!1 2) Rethugs believe those servant, I mean *service* jobs are ALL that brown skins are fit to do. Well, except for laying tile, carpentry, and other such things. 3) Sounds like all future potential Rethug candidates have had Undocumenteds on their household payrolls, such that this provision would do away with their being ruled-out of running.
