Gov. Wanker wants to scrap State's 20yr old recycling Law
Madison, Wis. (Learfield)

- Wisconsin’s 20-year-old mandatory recycling law would be tossed in the garbage under Governor Scott Walker’s next state budget. The Republican Walker says communities would no longer be required to have recycling programs – and those that do would stop getting state money to help run them. Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie says the goal is to help communities cut their costs by reducing state mandates, while helping fix the state’s budget deficit at the same time.

But Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said Walker “doesn’t want us to recycle.” And he says the governor is quote, “continuing his assault on any environmental program he can see.” Barrett said Milwaukee’s landfill costs would jump by two-and-a-half million dollars a year due to higher dumping fees that won’t go away.

Lynn Morgan of Waste Management said Wisconsin needs to grow recycling, not gut it. Her company has spent up to 35-million dollars on recycling facilities in southeast Wisconsin, most of it for a plant in Germantown. She said garbage is marketable, but it needs state mandates and subsidies to flourish. But Waukesha County administration director Norm Cummings vows to keep recycling alive. He said high prices for metals have allowed his programs to build up some reserve funds to keep programs going

7. Does he want to put the lead back in gasoline? Does that seem more "murikin" to him?
Perhaps potable water treatment facilities can me "voluntary" too? Geez, I shouldn't joke - these nut baggers are dragging up back to the nineteenth century.

10. actually he DOES want to stop the water treatment says it's too expensive
there was a story.......maybe on thinkprogress........http://thinkprogress.org/2011/02/26/report-top-10-disastrous-policies-from-the-wisconsin-gop-you-havent-heard-about/

........."3. DANGEROUS DRINKING WATER: Republican lawmakers have introduced bills in both the Senate and the House which would repeal a rule requiring municipal governments to disinfect their water. Conservatives have said that the clean water rule — which went into effect in December — is simply too expensive. Yet the rule only affects 12 percent of municipalities and the price may be worth it. In 1993, 104 people died and 400,000 fell sick when the Milwaukee water supply became infected. Even two decades later, the Environmental Protection Agency Advisory Board notes that 13 percent of acute gastro-intestinal illnesses in municipalities that don’t disinfect their water supplies are the result of dirty water. Municipalities can keep their water clean for as low as $10,000 per well — but apparently for the Wisconsin GOP that is too high a price to pay to keep citizens safe from deadly microorganisms"........

18. OMG - unbelievable. I remember the horrors that transpired in Milwaukee -
It was terrifying because for quite some time no one knew why people were getting sick and dying until I believe it was discovered that a pathogen was slipping through the treatment system. Good god, these greedy bastards read Dickens and saw a blueprint for the future - and the rank and file teabaggers are more than happy to assist in their own destruction. Wow.

Thank god the tea baggers are fighting for freedom - the freedom to perish from dysentery in Lincoln NE and cholera in Jackson Mo. My god.

8. Well here is one potential reason
WISCONSIN PAPER COUNCIL

Wisconsin has led the nation in papermaking for more than 50 years. From the home and classroom to the printer and board room, more than 5.3 million tons of paper and over 1.1 million tons of paperboard are produced and distributed annually nation- and worldwide. For this reason, the paper industry and its allied industries continue to be key factors in the state’s economic well-being.

The Wisconsin Paper Council advocates for and represents its members in public affairs and public relations matters, serves as a center for the exchange of ideas, and disseminates news and information concerning the industry including proposed legislation and job opportunities. The Council also works to educate and inform the generations of tomorrow by providing educators with informational tools to aide in teaching Wisconsin’s children about the importance of paper and the papermaking process…thus preserving our legacy well into the future.

...they'd pass a law overturning it.

It's as if they don't evaluate *ANYTHING* on its merits,
only on its ideology. Anything with even a tint of left-wing
affiliation *MUST* be bad and to be fought-against.

Even breathing.

20. For some reason I keep getting our Gov. Voldemort and Gov. Wanker mixed up...
their MO is nearly identical, so when I first read about this yesterday I thought it was OUR state of FL which was going to ditch recycling (and of course it made me livid). Then I realized it was Walker, but also had that feeling that ours would probably do the same just to keep up with Tea Party Joneses.
