CNN Anchor Interviews Al Jazeera Anchor Who Interviewed Libyan Rebels
NEW YORK—In an effort to provide viewers with an authentic, first-person account of conditions on the ground in Libya, CNN news anchor Kyra Phillips conducted an exclusive, one-on-one interview Tuesday with the Al Jazeera news anchor who interviewed leaders of the uprising.

"What can you tell us about what they told you about what the situation is like for them right now?" asked Phillips, going directly to the source of the Arab news network's extensive on-air discussions with key figures in the rebellion. "'This fight for freedom has come at a great cost to you,' is what I imagine you said to them, correct?"

CNN has announced it will continue its firsthand reporting on the chaos in Tripoli's streets from its bureau in Cairo, more than 1,000 miles away.

1. This is so completely believable
After all, CNN was getting their "interviews" over the telephone from Cairo and using tweets to get pictures and details to pad out their short conversations.

5. Media report Brega "impossible to reach" as AJE reports from...Brega!
Completely believable, indeed. Check out this entry from AJE's Live Blog - Libya March 2:

Now here's an interesting report, in the Sydney Morning Herald. It contains the line, "Brega itself was impossible to reach on Wednesday." A quick Google news search will reveal that it's a line that has been repeated over and over again. Check for yourself. Our count is nearly 17,000 news articles repeating the line. Obviously we've not checked them all.

But, equally obviously, given our reporting through the day from Brega, and our photos from the town and its hospital, it wasn't exactly "impossible" to get there...

4. I laughed. But, to be fair, CNN seem to be the only American news org. in Libya.

6. NBC's Richard Engle, too
And several news organizations have reporters stationed at the Egyptian and Tunisian borders.
