Unborn child to 'testify' on Ohio abortion bill
http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/ohio-news/unborn-child-to-testify-on-ohio-abortion-bill-1093746.html

<<COLUMBUS, Ohio — A fetus has been scheduled as a legislative witness in Ohio on a unique bill that proposes outlawing abortions after the first heartbeat can be medically detected.

Faith2Action, the anti-abortion group that has targeted Ohio to pilot the measure, called the in-utero witness the youngest to ever come before the House Health Committee at 9 weeks old.

Faith2Action president Janet Folger Porter said the intent is to show lawmakers who will be affected by the bill, which abortion rights groups oppose. Ohio Right to Life has not endorsed the measure. An aide to committee Chairman Lynn Wachtmann said a pregnant woman will be brought before the committee and an ultrasound image of her uterus will be projected onto a screen. The heartbeat of the fetus will be visible in color.<<<

4. Really,
If you can't make your point with hard, solid facts then bring out the shameless ploys for sympathy.

That is it - no class and no shame.

6. If they had not already proven themselves incapable of
governing their state, allowing this ridiculous stunt should be the final straw.

I feel for the sentient people of Ohio - you have my sympathy and I wish you the very best of luck living in a state governed by complete and utter idiots.

13. The thing is, this group thinks that if this kind of bill gains traction elsewhere...
...it will mean the end of Roe.

23. I know what they think, I just don't think
they have two brain cells to rub together. Collectively.

This is a tide that will be hard to turn, both because of the increasing number of bat-shit crazy anti-women types and because of an increasing number of young women who simply cannot comprehend anything beyond their tiny bubble of reality.

I teach college and it is appalling to hear young women say that they want five or six babies and think that all abortion is murder. They don't know what Roe is; they lack the basic knowledge (and perhaps intelligence) to grasp the danger of a reversal. They can look at a picture of a woman dead on the floor after a back-street abortion and not bat an eyelash - probably because they have become so inured to images of violence that a grainy b&w crime scene photo is hardly a blip on their radar.

Then they'll say - "I just don't understand how she could kill her baby!"

If I sound blase, it is because I despair.

12. All right if a fetus is going to testify in court
how do they swear it in? And since it cannot speak, how can it assert his/her rights to remain silent or anything else? How can this even be legal?

17. It's legal if the law says it's legal...
... until and unless it is adjudicated as against either the state or federal constitution, bill of rights, etc...

So it may very well become the law initially. How to get around the issue of competance is another issue.

20. could we call in a person dying due to no health insurance?
Bring 'em in on a gurney (purchased from an old military supply store for a few bucks, since insurance won't cover it) and ask them how they feel about not being able to afford healthcare that could have prolonged their life and mitigated their suffering?

Maybe they'll die during the hearing.

Think the Republicans would care?
