US UK, French forces land in Libya

Islamabad—The United States, Britain and France have sent several hundred “defence advisors” to train and support the anti-Gadhafi forces in oil-rich Eastern Libya where “rebels armed groups” have apparently taken over.

According to an exclusive report confirmed by a Libyan diplomat in the region “the three Western states have landed their “special forces troops in Cyrinacia and are now setting up their bases and training centres” to reinforce the rebel forces who are resisting pro-Qaddafi forces in several adjoining areas.

A Libyan official who requested not to be identified said that the U.S. and British military gurus were sent on February 23 and 24 night through American and French warships and small naval boats off Libyan ports of Benghazi and Tobruk.

The Western forces are reportedly preparing to set-up training bases for local militias set-up by the rebel forces for an effective control of the oil-rich region and counter any push by pro- Qaddafi forces from Tripoli.

Other reports claim that efforts to “neutralize” the Libyan Air Force were also underway to limit Qaddafi’s rule in Tripoli if not fully uprooted from the country.

2. None whatsoever.
However, I would think that it is better kept quiet.

If they can disable the Libyan Air force, then it would be good.

7. I have seen it in only one place.
I googled, and the only source is the Pakistan newspaper. I am sure it would be better if Gadafi did not know.

5. In British papers, I've read that Pres. Obama spoke to Sarkozy & Cameron prior to the Motown concert
... to discuss military intervention in Libya. This occurred after ships bearing over 600 American evacuees left Libyan waters after three days of rough seas that made leaving impossibly hazardous. The last of the British evacuees left yesterday.

And today, it's game on for the CIC.

4. I was talking about oil prices with someone this morning. And after our
conversation, it dawned on me that oil prices could come down as a result in the changes in the Middle East. The dictators in charge in the past have held the line very firmly on the OPEC prices. Who knows what will happen now?

Prices will go up for a while, but then?

I wonder if this is why Chavez in Nicaragua was backing Gaddhafi? (Other than that they are both megalomaniacs on a personal level with vendettas against the US).

These political changes could end a certain solidarity in the Arab world regarding oil prices and the limits on production that have held them up since the early 1970s.

Even the Saudi Arabian leadership might decide to go ahead and take their profits now rather than wait.

On the other hand, oil production could be slowed or even end in some countries. Of course, not all of the countries going through political changes have oil. Some of the big oil producers -- Kuwait and the states located near Saudi Arabia are not having so much difficulty with the exception of Bahrain.

Looks like these support troops are being sent in to secure the oil supply.

see Kosovo...

Advisors can lead to a... police action, see Nam. We cannot afford it. So I am very torn on this.

12. It's more like a shopping trip.
Seeing what power base we can exploit now that the tide has turned against MQ. There's no way the powerful nations are letting the largest oil field in the world just go into the hands of freedom fighters. This is bad news for the rebellion. Like bobbo said, Oh shit.

We're there to make sure the people of Libya "choose" the "right" leadership...with US stamp of approval. They did all the dirty work; we're just there to take credit and clean up the reward. :(

It seemed like things were just going too well. Which is cynical. :D You can almost never go wrong as a cynic. And if you are wrong, you can be pleasantly surprised!

Actually, I think I was holding my breath, and that OH SHIT was the exhalation.

Some of us have lived through too many things, and have been paying attention, and its hard to ignore the red flags.

Did I mention... OH SHIT!?

IF this is true, will the Libyan people ever forgive us?

Libya is on the UN Human Rights Council.

30. You understand the rhetoric used?
India = mortal enemy. Ultimate evil. The infidels are helping the forces of chaos against a stable regime on Muslim ground. The infidels are Europe, America, and India.

The US is being evil for doing this. Then again, they assume that the US, like India, are evil. If we can undermine a Muslim regime--even a not-so-good Muslim regime--we will.

Not only that, India's somehow obligated to the US. Warship was delivered to India by the US and all that.

It's the same kind of drivel that had the S. Sudanese elections and peace treaty all just a plot fomented by the infidel West to divide up the largest Muslim country. From the insurrection and fighting itself, through the peace negotiations, to the elections. It's all an anti-Muslim plot.

They probably got the story from Debka. On the other hand, they'd never, but *never*, admit it if it wasn't in their interests.
