Police letter to Walker: We will not clear out the capitol
At the Wisconsin Solidarity Rally in Chicago, a letter from the chief of police to Gov. Walker was read stating that the police are going to stay out of this matter.

How cool is that?!

9. When you are the Governer of a state and you loose the police support
That should really tell you that you fucked up big time.

10. It will be interesting to see how this pans out because
if my memory is correct.... The governor of a state is the "Chief" or top commanding officer and if he orders the police to clear the building they could be disobeying a commanding offer.

I am not sure of the legal powers the Wisconsin Governor has. Just speculating

12. I wonder if the original poster was referring to the chief of Madison city police?
He would answer to the mayor of Madison, NOT to the governor. And, I believe that the mayor of Madison is firmly against Walker and definitely one of us.

If it were the Wisc. state police, that would be a different matter -- I assume Walker would fire that guy on the spot if it were within his powers.

13. I agree ... it would have to be the state police.
If the head of their state police refused to follow a command to clear the capitol, I am sure the Gov would have probable cause to write him up for insubordination.

Also the capital police would be under the Governor. So they also could be ordered to clear the capital building from obstruction.

14. That makes me wonder what's going to happen if Walker orders the state police
to clear out the Capitol. Will the Madison city police be caught in the middle?

18. If the State Patrol/Capitol Police balks, I'm sure he has backup..
He's probably gone to some of the Sheriff's departments in some of the redder counties and recruited some deputies who he knows can be trusted.

Failing that, he could always call the Guard.

Wait a minute, Hey, Mr. President! Our brave men in women in Afghanistan could use some extra hands right about now, I'm sure the Wisconsin National Guard can do a lot to help over there...

prevent Walker from violating Wisconinites' constitutional rights to freedom of speech and assembly. If Obama through inaction or ineptitude allows the protesters to be 'cleared' by Walker's extra-judicial mercenaries, I will not be voting for Obama in 2012.
