5. Thanks for sharing that one
I'd never heard that before.

True word and music artists in my book can never be underestimated in their power to wake the world up.

15. Woody Guthrie was the voice of labor back in the day
Edited on Sat Feb-26-11 04:19 PM by RainDog
he was one of THE inspirations for the entire 1960s folk music scene - Bob Dylan idolized him, copied his style and wrote him a song - and went on to plug in white folks to rock n roll (tho black folks were already rockin' it in the church.)

14. Thanks
Lyrics for the Death Metal impaired:

War on our hands, war on our minds
Beat on the drums, beaten our hopes
Nothing is left, nothing is gained
Angry at one, angry at all

World in Agony, World in pain
World in Anger, World of shame

The error of man, the error of faith
Shaping tomorrow, destroying today
Nothing ahead, nothing to be
Anger is one, anger is all

World in Agony, World in pain
World in Anger, Word insane

Cursing ourselves, causing our death
Abusing the earth, it's coming apart
Can we undo, what we have done
Before we undo, what we become

The earth is bitter
The earth is black
What have we done
There's no going back

Again, sorry for being the downer, but I fear Libya is a foreshadow of what's to come for all of us.

17. I don't think it is being a downer at all. I think it is being realistic.

The lines in the Springfield song that really hit me are:

"God Bless the treasures we own. Thank God for the house, the car, and the TV. They've built us a prison without any locks. And mean while the men who claim God on their side, spit out their message sell me a ride while we look for idols in side of a fashion magazine."

To me this part sums up most of Western Society, US and Europe pretty well especially the Right Wing Religious Pukers in all nations.

Then the "walls to keep us in, and walls to keep us out, we can't go back again with backs against the wall," line.

I think of the immigration debates here, and the attempts to take back what few meaningful civil rights American miniorites including blacks, women, hipanics, etc have won, not to mention the rights of poor and middle class whites.

Its troubling that too many of the later group just are too brainwashed and blind to get it. They think if they just work harder or win lotto, they too can be a billionaire. They just don't understand that they can work until their backs are breaking and their hands are bleeding, and those jerks at the top are never going to notice or care.

The workers are lucky if they get a penny tossed on to those broken backs. The Richies are never going to voluntairly give back what they have stolen from the people who actually do work. They will just demand more work.

Meanwhile members of the middle class are actually under the dellusion that the rich actually "earned" their money honestly and they can too.

My biggest fear is that America is going to be the only one not to "Wake up" as to regarding what needs to change. Look the people who do get it are out there on the streets, but most of the rest of the country is bascially ignoring it.

In a side note some people dismiss Springfield as a meaningless pretty pop star, and maybe his top 40 stuff and roll on General Hospital reinforced that, but his actual albums as a whole contained some much deeper stuff. I guess the depressed side of him always called out to my own depressed and pessimistic nature. Any way he is sure a hell of a lot more credit to Austrailia than Murdoch or Gibson(I know born American) but Austrailia claimed him too.

11. Good one
People need a good solid history lesson of why unions were formed in the first place.
