Republican David Brooks "More people own ferrets than watch fox news".
Heard him say that in a debate last night on Bloomberg News. Thought it was a good illustration to show that Fox News patroons clearly have way more political clout than they should. It's catchy and should be spread all over the place to help marginalize Fox.

1. So there is still a favorable ferret to weasel ratio.

It's good that the ratio of ferret owners to fox watchers is high. But I say, while there is one person watching fox, it is not high enough.

2. Overall population watching FOX is probably about that low. They
only look big compared to other cable news channels. Only then because so many right-wingers watch FOX exclusively. The rest of us are more spread out among the other news sources.

4. Depends on how you define "watch" I guess
Over the past week I've seen it in a doctor's waiting room, a tire shop customer area, Costco, and Walmart.

I asked the guy at the tire store to change the channel since I was the only customer there at the time, but you get the point.

My granddaughter says its on at the gym every day. She brings her ipod so she won't have to listen to it. Good girl.

There may not be many people "watching' it but there sure are a lot of us exposed to their bullshit constantly.

7. And the alternatives aren't that much better
I can't stand to watch CNN at the airport. about 30 seconds in, I am ready to throw something at the screen after some blatant piece of propaganda is portrayed as 'news'. Happens every time.

8. David Brooks is clueless.
He probably lives in some ritzy neighborhood and thinks that the people there represent American society at large. He needs to get out here and meet some middle class seniors and see what they watch. I don't know anyone who has a ferret, but on the other hand.....

13. David Brooks is a republicon elitist
He's educated and fairly intelligent. I'm sure he knows FOX is swill. Of course he's not a FOX viewer, and of course he doesn't spend time with average peons, ignorant schmucks, who watch FOX.

9. Nobody watches cable news, period.
If you take the number of lemmings that watch the corporate propaganda of CNN, Fox, and MSNBC, it doesn't even add up to 2-3% of our population on any given night of ratings.

Yet, Beltway politicians still think people give a shit about cable news or what gets said on cable news. It's all canned corporate propaganda. Some tilts slightly right, some tilts slightly left, but above all, they are getting paid to spew propaganda for the likes of NewsCorp or GE.
